Icon in the address bar

does anyone know what i can do to get an icon to show up in the address bar beside my website instead of the ie icon

Create a 16x16 icon named favicon.ico and place it at the root level of the website...ie www.microsoft.com/favicon.ico

if you don't have access to the root level, place a link in the head tags such as

Hello, I tried put that in my main SharePoint Portal page, and the icon didn't show up. Did I missing some step. I have the xxxxx.ico in the http://xxxxxx.xxxxxxx.com level and hav it link to it just the instruction stated (in the Header tag). When I put http://xxxxxx.xxxxxxx.com/xxxxx.ico try to see if I can see the icon and i saw a red X image. The icon is fine showing in the regular file folder.
