Hello,

I'm a Software Developer (Trainee). I'm entrusted for "Incorporating Windows Desktop Search with the facility to index and crawl URLs". I found it really difficult, since am a fresher. I don't have much knowledge of these. Anyhow, I found stuffs like Isearch Protocol, IURLAccessor, IFilter, etc that'll fulfill my requirements. But, still I don't have idea, how to use these stuffs.

Can anyone help me out. It's urgent...

Regards,

Vikas Kumar

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your reply. Actually, I want to crawl ans index data on the intranet. And if any authorize user on intranet searches for the data, he/she must be served with the result succeded by http://localhost/...... using Windows Desktop Search.

Is there any option available with WDS

If not, How can I incorporate this feature of crawling and indexing in WDS on Intranet / LAN.

Please help me out...

Thanks & Regards

Hello Vikas,

You can crawl the intranet using existing options in WDS. You'll have to right click on the spyglass in the system tray and then select options. Once there, click on the indexing section in the left navigation pane. From there, select Custom, click browse, and select the drives you would like to index.

You can also set the drives you would like to index at install. To find out more about this see our administrator guide here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/6/2/8629CB23-6E5A-45B5-A430-99778A34CFBF/Windows%20Desktop%20Search%20Administration%20Guide.doc

If you are using WDS 3.0 beta 2 you will need to install the UNC/FAT protocol handler before you can index network shares. You can find this protocol handler here:

Hello Paul,

I did that previously. Let me explain the requirements again.

We are having data on server. And those data/files are offline pages. I actually want to give a main page to the crawler and the crawler does all the crawling and then indexing. When user want to search any page, it should appear like a webpage in the form of http://localhost/.......

Did you get that Please help me out.
