Windows Desktop Search - Network Drive

I am looking to use Windows Desktop Search v2.6.5 to index files in a mapped
network drive. (G:\files) they are only word documents and I have about 20
workstations that I wish to index the same files. I am getting "locked file"
errors when I try to open, edit then save a document. The document can only
be "saved as." Is there a work around or are there specific changes that
need to be made to desktop search

This is an interesting problem. We have several organizations that are doing the same thing with no issues at all. I'm going to run it by some of my enterprise experts and see what they have to say. Hopefully we'll have an answer soon.

We've investigated this problem further, but have been unable to replicate the issue. We have, however, seen a number of issues with MS Word failing to delete temp files out of network shares - creating the same symptoms you are seeing.

Can you detect exactly what program is locking the files There is an open source tool called Unlocker that can tell you this. It's not a Microsoft product and is NOT supported by us so if you do use it please do so at your own risk.

If you can tell us the exact program/process that is locking your files it would be helpful.

I have the same problem. I unistalled desktop search, the problem stopped. After 10 days I reinstall desktop search and after a couple of hours the problem occured again.
