Exchange Servers Admin >> My Exchange 5.5 is relaying encapsulated messages HELP!

My Exchange 5.5 server appears to be relaying encapsulated messages. On the
"routing" tab of the IMC, I have it set to "re-route SMTP mail..." but on
the "routing restrictions" button I have every single item UNCHECKED. Also,
I have rebooted the server. I heard that you have to disable encapsulated
relaying via the registry, but I can't seem to find the article on
Microsoft's site. Can anyone help??

Exchange Servers Admin >> My Exchange 5.5 is relaying encapsulated messages HELP! Uncehck re-route SMTP mail. If you have POP or IMAP users who need an SMTP
IMC to relay mail, for their use install an IMC on a separate Exchagne 5.5
server that is not exposed to the Internet.

I thought about this, but after reading this article...

http://www.winnetmag.com/Article/ArticleID/7696/7696.html

...I decided that was not a wise thing to do. Also, in regards to a
separate machine for an IMC, I do not have this option.

Any other ideas?

Two things lead me to believe this...

#1 - The queue is filling up with messages that have senders and recipients
we have never heard of.
#2 - The queue immediately stops filling up when I unplug my Internet router
(indicating that the messages are not originating from inside my network.)

Exchange Servers Admin >> My Exchange 5.5 is relaying encapsulated messages HELP! Enable diag logging and see (in App Event log) if messages are rerouted.
There should be a specific event (I forgot ID) for each message. Also
test your server in accordance with
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;836500&Product=ech

Exchange Servers Admin >> My Exchange 5.5 is relaying encapsulated messages HELP! There isn't enough space or time in a short-answer forum like this to write
an article. You can follow the article and its recommendations for
disallowing relay, but still create a IMS that's hidden from the Internet
for your internal users.
