Exchange Servers Admin >> Exchange 2003 issues

Pardon my ignorance, but is this not "exchange 2003" ng?

I'm looking for answers concerning an exchange server 2003
I just finished setting up, NOS is 2000 server and
exchange 2003 standard. Two bugs are happening, one the
server takes an enormous amount of time to reboot/shutdown
after installing Exc2003, and I have to mount the store
manually after every reboot. Any answers concerning these
two issues would be appreciated.

Exchange Servers Admin >> Exchange 2003 issues i can help with the first, you need to set the
timetowaittokillservice registry setting (search for
waittokill under HKLM) back to something reasonable (e2k3
sets it to 600000 after install) 20000 is what i have
mine at

maybe check that the "do not mount store at startup" box
isnt checked on the store properties. other than that i'm
no use as i'm an exchange noob ;)

Exchange Servers Admin >> Exchange 2003 issues Sounds like you have it installed on a DC, in which case it will take a long
time to shutdown:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;829361

Are there any error reported in the Application Log regarding the stores not
mounting, are the store's configured to automatically mount on startup?

Exchange Servers Admin >> Exchange 2003 issues Not recommend, and I am not sure if this would even be supported by
Microsoft.

Exchange Servers Admin >> Exchange 2003 issues If you have hundreds of open connections to the server it can take allot of
time for the connections to be closed and the Stores updated and closed
gracefully. The server will not stop in the middle of delivering multi meg
files that are in Queue. I have seen it take 30 minutes to do a shutdown.
Be patient and let it take as much time as it wants. Also make sure your
SCSI firmware and drivers are up to date and are certified for W2K.

Is this also a Domain Controller? If so, the LSASS service is stopping
befor the Exchange services. Try stopping the System Attendant service
before rebooting the server.

Have you mistakenly instructed the server to NOT mount the database?

Exchange Servers Admin >> Exchange 2003 issues I have solved the problem of information store not
mounting on boot up by unchecking the "do not mount store
at startup", but still takes long to shut down, I have
manually stop exchange services then shutdown, it's 10
times faster, and services didn't take long to stop. both
weird problems in my opinion.
