emailing from vb.net application

i would like to add an email to customers option in my point of sale application. which sends html mails or greetings to customers automatically based on the information from database.it should also have an option to edit the html template which i have designed. if anyone can help me out the steps i should follow will be helpful

The System.Net.Mail namespace includes much of what you need (assuming you are targeting the 2.0 framework).

When it comes to how to do it, take a look at the code sample and info here, it's a pretty simple and straightforward operation.

my biggest issue is i have predesigned html template for message. but what i am looking for is providing option to the user like content management. im my mind i have plan to display mail composer windows form which dsplays from, to, ... and in the bodycontent - html predesined template. if the user wnat to edit some they should be able to edit like Outlook.then store or send the mail.if we use text box we cannot display html page on it to edit so i want to know is any other way i can look forward, if you can see in our forum reply form for example..

the second issue was apllication should send greetings or seasional mails automatically, like birthday wish based on the database information(im using Sql2005Exp).

What you need a HTML editor control. I am noy sure if one comes with VS 2005,
but it seems http://www.codeproject.com/useritems/editor_in_windows_forms.asp might be
of some use to you

this is good. the next question of mine is to send mails automatically based on the data in tha database, ie, birth day wishes. i have template store in a folder, what is the best method to use mailing automation. is there articles or sample available.
