.Net 3.0 Install Error

Hi I'm getting the following error when trying to install .Net 3.0:

I've uninstalled IIS, reinstalled IIS, tried to install with IIS uninstalled, run CleanIISScriptMaps, added extra debug information and read every single newsgroup. Now I'm stumped. Any ideas

I'm running Win XPSP2, VS2005.

Can you please find install and error log for netfx 3.0 from your %temp% folder. Can you please zip it and send it to us.

Working with Microsoft Support after several attempts to find the root cause of the problem described here, we performed the following.

Start->Run, type msconfig. Choose, start the machine in diagnostics mode. Click on the Services tab and make sure that Windows Installer, Plug and Play and System Restore are all turned on. You will need these services to work in diagnostics mode to get the .Net Framework 3.0 installed.

Once the machine reboots in Diagnostic mode, install the .Net Framework 3.0 install file. When it is complete, go back to Start->Run, type msconfig. Put the reboot back into the default Startup mode. Your problem should be fixed.

I suspect your system has pre release ver. of 3.0. Download & install this redistributable & check what it says:

If the problem is pre release then follow this to remove it :

Uninstall Instructions Uninstalling Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 CTPs
1. Go to the Control Panel and launch Add/Remove Programs
2. Remove "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0"

NOTE: This step will automatically remove Windows Communication Foundation Beta 2 (aka Microsoft "Indigo" Beta 2), Windows Presentation Foundation Beta 2 (aka Microsoft "Avalon" Beta 2) and Windows Workflow Foundation.

3.Remove "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2 "
Uninstalling WinFX Runtime Components Beta 1
1.Go to the Control Panel and launch Add/Remove Programs
2. Remove "Microsoft "Indigo" Beta 1"
3. Remove "Microsoft "Avalon" Beta 1"
4. Remove "WinFX Runtime Components Beta 1"
5. Remove "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2"

If the manual uninstall instructions didn’t work for you, you can uninstall previous versions of Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 by running the auto-uninstall tool, from the Download link on this page. (Once the tool is lauched, accept the EULA, check "Uninstall Visual Studio Components" then press "Next" to start.)

NOTE! In addition to Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 , the tool will uninstall ALL pre-release Visual Studio 2005 editions such as Visual Studio Express, Visual Studio Team System, Professional, and Standard edition.

That was the problem. The .Net 3.0 framework installed correctly.

Now the VS2005 service packs won't install.

OK, so I finally fixed it myself.
Not quite sure what did it, but I did the following:
Unistalled SQL 2005
Unistalled VS 2005 & all associated installs
Unistalled .Net 2.0
Unistalled .Net 2.0 Compact Development Framework
Unistalled AjaxControlToolkit
Unistalled ASPAJAX
Unistalled & Reinstalled IIS

Followed some advice from another post and set permissions on: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Security\ServiceModel 3.0.0.0

Now, I just need to get everything else working again...

Well, it didn't help me. I don't have any versions of .NET framework 3.0, and I can't install it either. But, I did try to restore a backup...My computer also won't let me do a Repair install of Windows...for whatever that may or may not have to do with the situation.
