I have written a huge program in C#. The program connects to a database using a connection string. I was writing the program on my own personal machine and then when it was time to deploy it to the client, I changed the line of code that contains the name of my server and database and replaced it with the clients server and database.
The program as many of you may have guessed didn't work.
I do realize that i would have to redo all the work to modify the links from the server I have on my machine to the other server.
Is there a way to do this without having to duplicate the work and redo everything
please help
Also, I was wondering if it was possible to do the link to a SQL Server dynamically. Meaning allow the user to pick a SQL server and then connect to the one that the user picks, authenticate, then connect to the tables in that database and server if they exist

You might like to use configuration file to store information which you feel could change. Doing this, you need not compiling it again.
Regarding SQL server connection, you can have connection strings too in configuration file.
As you have described, you need to redo all the work at deployment, actually this should not be the case. One need not to compile on deployment [prod server]. You might be missing something.

Can you be specific in describing your problem. What error your program is showing up Any exception. May be we can fix it without even changing a line in code if we have got the error message or somethign like that.

It seems that your application not able to get connected to DataStore [SQL]. You might like to check your connection string to verify that the application is pointing to right desired database and in SQL server settings, it allows to make connections from applications
