MFC >> Record and play macros in application

I've been asked if I can add a macro record/playback facility to an
application I've developed.

Does anyone know if there's an API for this? Failing that, does anyone
have any suggestions how I should undertake this task? Pitfalls to
avoid? Anything at all really.

It seems, at first glance, that there's two ways to do this; add a
'record' option (in the code) to every place a user can "do" something
(e.g. a dialog is about to be displayed, control values have been
changed) or to somehow record mouse clicks and key presses whilst
recording. Both methods seem fraught with difficulties, and neither
seems ideal.

Thanks in advance.
