MDAC and SP5 on Vista

Visual Studio307
MDAC seems not to install.

SP5 requires MDAC 2.5 or above to be installed.

VB6 without SP5 is worthless.

Also VB6 works fine, but when saving a .frm for example

it saves it in oo.frm instead of its original name.

Any help will be appreciated.

BTW: Most my programs work OK in Vista, including Context menu

DLL.

Having problems networking Vista and other OSs, not a VB related

problem.

Many thanks

"MDAC" is not supported in Vista and cannot be installed.

[Note: Vista has what is called the "DAC 6.0" which is functionally

equivalent to a MDAC 2.8 SP1. You cannot install it, reinstall it, or

distribute it. The MDAC days are over.]

You can install VB SP5 and there are workarounds for some errors. So we

would need to know exactly what errors you are experiencing before

suggesting a fix. For a practical solution, which is only MHO you are better

off going with SP6 on Vista, worts and all. Keep your VB SP5 development on

Win2k/XP boxes. But it totally depends on YOUR problem domain and YOUR

needs.

Re:MDAC and SP5 on Vista

The error message I get after I click accept the legal agreement,

require MDAC 2.5 or higher to install SP5, and ends the installation.

I can try SP6, I just use Vista to fix errors.

I do use Win 98 and XP for my programming on two

different computers.

Many thanks
