Hi All,



I need a dongle to protect my vb application on

several clients. The dongle will be installed on

Windows 2000 server with SQL server. I will be

happy if my application can read the information in it

via SQL command.



I have never used any dongle before.

Could you give me some recommendation where I

can purchase it ?

I have used both SafeNet (Rainbow) and MAI USB keys.



Safenet ordering process requires you fax back a confirmation of your PO, an unnecessary hassle in

my opinion. The keys are $37 in small quantities (less than 20 I think). Delivery is usually 10

days but has been longer.



MAI accepts faxes, email, phone calls, and ships the same day. Keys are $21 in small quantities.

No brainier for me.

The two main commercial providers of dongles are "DESKey" and "Rainbow

Technologies". Both provide API's and sample code to talk to their

dongles.



In order to talk to the dongle from a SPROC in SQL Server you will need

to write an application extension (ie: DLL).
