Error Installing VFP VS_SETUP.MSI

ReInstalling VFP9 en mi W2k3 Standard SP1 the error message: "The windows installer: z:\vs_setup.msi could not be opened. Setup will not continue. This is a default response to an error. If you see this please save log files and RAID a bug." What happend Thanks

Usually this error appears on computers who need to install some components (Windows Component Update) previous to install vfp 9 (or other software). To repair this you may use Add/Remove …from control panel or run setup.exe from root directory of installation cd.

Are you installing from a cd unit or a network (I saw letter z:)

If you go to control panel in add/remove programs; it appears there

You can remove Visual FoxPro installation info using one of following utilites

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/myuninst.html

http://wistinga.online.fr/safarp/

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx kbid=290301

After that you should be able to re-install VFP9. You may have to unistall and re-install it again just to be safe.

No there is nothing in add/remove in control panel what would be related to VFP 9.

the first two utilites showed nothing that relates to VFP 9. But the WinInstallerCleanUp (third link) show component Visual Foxpro 9.0 Baseline - English [9.00.2412]. I removed it an tried to reinstall VFP9.

I ran setup.exe (from copy of CD on the HD) and there was needed installation of Prerequisities (Setup Runtime Files and Microsoft SOAP Toolkit 3.0) . Installation of prerequisities stoped with message "Setup cannot find Installation CD. Please insert the MS Visual Foxpro 9.0 Prerequisities CD into the CD drive and click Retry. I put the CD but nothing changed. After Cancel setup there was a recomandation to to instal prereq-components manualy under instructions readme(CD\WCU\help\moreinfo.htm)

I ran WCU\bootstrap.msi and WCU\SOAP3\soapsdk.msi and installations were succesfull.

Next I ran setup.exe again with step 2 (Visual Foxpro) and stoped again with message:

The Windows Installer package:

d:\cd\vs_setup.msi could not be opened.

Setup will not continue.

This is a default response to an error.

If you see this please save your log files and RAID a bug.

After OK, the next message is: Failed to populate selection tree. Please see the radme at the root of the CD ( I found out nothing interesting there) or installation source for detailed informations.

In the installlog.txt there is the same error as I wrote here. I dont know what to do. I dont want to reinstall whole WinXP (because on other computers, instlation works fine) I think that something is wrong with Setup Runtime Files, but what and how to repair it

Your installation cd has volume label

The advices I saw in other forums were to try to copy the content from the CD to a local drive and try to run from there. If you want, I can make a search for you how to solve the problem.

You mai install vfp only from original cd or network drive:

I have installed from original CD. The copy of content of CD to HD was only attempt.
