Hi All,

We have an application that we recently upgraded from VFP 8 to VFP 9. The transition was smooth except that the help file of the application is not working in VFP 9. I have made sure that FOXHHELP9.exe and FOXHHELPPS9.dll are included in the installer.

After doing some research on the web, I read a comment on http://www.hide-link.com/ ~VFP9RuntimeFiles which only says:

foxhhelp9.exe /regserver

When we type thi command at the cmd prompt, it fixes the problem. However, this is not the solution our users want to see.

Can you please let me know the reason for having to type this command, and is there a way I can avoid going this route

Thanx,

Bini

The installer for your EXE (in VFP9 generally InstallShield but you could use another brand), will install and register the components you select.

If you tell it to include the Fox help engine it will do so.

The line you highlighted does just that, registers the help engine in the client PC. You could do that programmatically directly under your control if you wanted, by running a post-installer file (also covered in InstallShield), that will run the line for you and do a 'semi-manual' registration.

You could also use the free Inno Installer to install the runtime files. Check out http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll Wiki~InnoSetup~VFP

This is what I use to do updates on client computers. End users like it and it is easy to use.
