Hi,

A problem I am always facing when I am creating a new software is the following:

I usually need in every software a grid to display my records in some sort of way from a table of cursor. Ok the grid will change a bit from form to form and from software to software (different row colors, sometimes I ll need to sort by columns somentimes not, different fonts, buttons in grid or not or others things etc etc).

Is there anywhere around the Internet such a ready made form-grid or Active X control that will do my job instead of each time spend a day of recreating it from almost scratch If it is also free (or cheap!) it would be really really very very nice :)

Any help

Thanks,

Athan

PS. Also any other forms - or links that could work as a framework are very welcome!

You can Subclass Foxpro's Grid Class and use that as your base Grid Class.

1) Also, Have you tested the tastrade examples: (tsmaintform, tsgrid, etc.) that come with VFP, or looked at the VFP foundation classes, and/or VFP samples These are free but you'd still have to adjust them to suit you as your base grid class with some OOP skills.

2) Why Active X controls ... can you not make one, two, or several base-grid classes Might you not make your properties and methods conditional (if...then, case...endcase, etc.) in the myform.init

3) Possibly, a list in your Grid.Init pointing to ALL your row column properties that peradventure become conditional or more easily re-writeable according your *level* of expertise.

Could you provide additional feedback

Well thanks for your help! I suppose I need to practise a bit more on grids and restore a lot of my OOP skills! :)

I just thought there could be something like a ready made framework to follow not only for grids but generally for VFP that could make things easier instead of having to program each line of code. ( Ok I cannot say it is still RAD enviroment but I just thought it would be a bit faster! I just used to work with it a lot in the past - version 6 but after a 3 years break, I have forgot too many things!!!)

It sounds like what you're looking for is a framework that'll handle all the basics of an application for you and let you concentrate on the stuff that changes from one app to another.

For a starting place to learn about frameworks for VFP, try http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll Wiki~VFPCommercialFrameworks.
