Hi, I'm a newbie.
I created an application using vb 2005 and SQL 2005. In this application I have windows forms that manipulate data on a local sql server. May I use this application to work with a data base that is located on a remote server over the net

Thanks

Yes you can as long as the daabase system yo are trying to connect to has remote conections and you have access to the system.

Thanks for your answer.

The remote server is a SQL SERVER 2005 on a system connected to internet and I've the name of the server and the IP of the remote system but I don't know how to use them in my connection string. There's no problem with user ID, password and data base name.

My question is what should I write in my connection string istead of : Data Source=local

Sorry if it's a very beginnr question, I couldn't find the answer in books.

Thank you

One of the sites that I find handy is www.connectionstrings.com. On this site you will find what you are looking for.
