When "Windows remembers a password" what's actually happening?

Windows OS115
When windows asks if I want it to remember a password when on a web site,

what's it actually doing? Generally, I answer "no" to the request, but for a

site I use all the time I said "yes". During an update to the site, all

passwords were reset and now I can't get on. When I called the site support

they said that, because I answered "yes" to the remember the password request

I needed to do something in Windows.

What is Windows doing when it remembers and how do you free things up so

that I can use the new password assigned by the site?

Since I'm the only user on my computer I don't have a password assigned to

my account.

Thanks

Re:When "Windows remembers a password" what's actually happening?

It stores the password on the computer in a fairly insecure way that would

be possible for another user that has Physical access to your computer to

obtain with free tools. You can clear it by going to tools/internet

options/content - autocomplete where you can select to clear stored

passwords. You may need to close the browser and reopen to have it take

affect. I suggest you always use a password unless you are sure that no one

will ever be able to gain physical access to your computer or never have it

connected to other computers on a local network. --- Steve
