WindowsMe >> Few issues-I need help =( Hi, I am having a few troubles as of right now, if anyone
can offer a suggestion, please do, I would greatly
appreciate it. Or if you know somewhere I would be better
off asking, even would be helpful. I have a feeling the
first issue may be related with the others, so I have put
it first.

I have windows ME

First issue- How can I remove files from my restore files,
I have some that contain known trojans/worms/viruses in
there, but it says that they cannot be removed as they are
being accessed or something. It just said unremovable
with the program I used.

second issue- My computer is lagging in minute intervals,
not on the minute, but exactly a minute inbetween each
one. It is not my internet connection, as it does it when
I am not on the internet using any program, and when I am
on the internet. It lags from anywhere between 3-5
seconds, this never stops or starts up again, it is
constant, and might I add, annoying.

third issue- I have a few anti-adware/spyware programs. A
few work still, but all of a sudden 2 of them will now
close automatically after being opened for about 15
seconds, they just close up. And to make matters worse,
my registry now will do the same thing if I run a search.
A related thing, when my computer shuts down improperly,
the auto disk check NEVER ends now, It continously starts
over.

Well, thats all for now, I have been very good at solving
most problems myself, but these have me baffled and
frustrated, so If you can help, I thank you very much.

This is no problem UNLESS you need to restore your system to an date it =
was infected.

But, you can completely and immediately remove the infected file or =
files in the data store.

Disable and re-enable the System Restore feature.

Using the following steps will completely remove all restore points from =
the data store. Do not use this method if this will cause problems. When =
you enable the System Restore feature again, the System Restore feature =
will create a new restore point and then resume monitoring your =
computer.=20

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click System, and then click the Performance tab.
3. Click File System, and then click the Troubleshooting tab.
4. Click to select the Disable System Restore check box, click Apply, =
click to clear the Disable System Restore check box, click Apply, and =
then click OK.
5. Restart the computer when you are prompted to do so. When the =
computer restarts, the data store is purged and the System Restore =
feature begins monitoring the system again.

Get Ad-Aware 6.0, Build 181 or later, here:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/. Update and run this =
regularly to get rid of most "spyware/hijackware" on your machine.
If it has to fix things, be sure to re-boot and rerun AdAware again and =
repeat this cycle until you get a clean scan.
The reason is that it may have to remove things which are currently "in =
use" before it can then clean up others.

Another excellent program for this purpose is SpyBot Search and Destroy =
available here: http://security.kolla.de/
SpyBot Support Forum here: =
http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi. I recommend =
using both normally.
After fixing things with SpyBot S&D, be sure to reboot and rerun SpyBot =
again and repeat this cycle until you get a clean "no red" scan.
The reason is that SpyBot sometimes has to remove things which are =
currently "in use" before it can then clean up others.

Note that sometimes you need to make a judgement call about what these =
programs report as spyware. See here, for example:
http://www.imilly.com/alexa.htm

Once you get this cleaned up, you might want to consider installing the =
SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard here to help prevent this kind of thing =
from happening in the future:

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html (Prevents malware =
Active X installs) (BTW, SpyWare Blaster is not memory resident ...
No CPU or memory load - but keep it updated).
The latest version as of this writing will prevent installation or =
prevent the malware from running if it is already installed, and it =
provides information and fixit-links for a variety of parasites.

http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html (Monitors for attempts =
to install malware).

Both Very Highly Recommended.

Adware, spyware, etc., read above.
You do run anti-virus software and keep it updated, don't you?

Also, download, install and run ScanDefrag from here:

http://www.blueorbsoft.com/scandefrag/

ScanDefrag is a small windows application that configures Microsoft's or =
Norton's disk utilities as part of the next Windows' startup process. =
This can result in less restarts and cleaner runs of these programs. =
Please read the readme file for more information and features available.
