I recieved a false hoax and w/o checking (didn't know how
at the time to check but do now)deleted some important
info needed for Windows....I downloaded the latest update
and it says beofre I can proceed I need to obtain "fix
Q290700"...what is this and how do I get to it?...thanks,

WindowsMe >> downloads due to false hoax The 290700 hotfix is available in many locations including the Windows Update
site, the Windows Update catalogue and from the link in the Knowledge Base
article having that number.

You can see whether you have installed the patch or not by checking the
version of the file smgr.dll in your windows\system folder. If v4.90.0.3003
then you have updated but if v4.90.0.2533 you have not and need to do so at
once. Note that if you have a copy of v4.90.0.3003 in your windows\options
folder and v4.90.0.2533 in your system folder then this is because you
reinstalled Win Me.
