- SBS >> Getting to sbs 4.5 dataI've recently installed sbs 2003 on a new server. Most of my data from my old
sbs 4.5 server was transferred to a local machine. However some data, because
of a permissions problem, didn't transfer. Is there a way to put the old
server on the new network and retrieve the data? If not, other than setting
up a computer as a 4.5 workstation again, is there a way to easily retrieve
the old server data? Many thanks.

- SBS >> I need to add many users to sharepoint. What are my options? We have an internally and publicly accessible sharepoint project site that we
would like to add many users to. This is all being hosted on a SBS 2003
premium sp1 box. I'd like to know what my options are to be able to create
many users for the sharepoint site and the subsites beneath it, without
adding them to my active directory structure.
I am aware that with active directory creation mode you can create new users
on the fly, but my server is in domain account mode and I also want to avoid
creating new users in my AD structure if at all possible. So, here are the
questions:
Is it all all possible to create users that won't be integrated with Active
Directory, or am I going to be stuck with buying a second SBS server and
putting sharepoint in active direcotry creation mode?
Are there any possible workarounds? I know the sharepoint add user wizard
seems to search for an identity in AD. Is there any way to maybe trick it,
by lets say.. creating a contact instead of a user, or something else along
those lines?
This website houses several project sites and some of them may need many
users, and it may approach the CAL limit for SBS, so if there's any way I can
add users to sharepoint that don't have to co-exist in Active Directory, I'd
really appreciate the assistance.

PO: >reminds me of BUGS, that new. programme on BBC1 on
That's exactly what we did. We went to a competent,. professional detective
agency in London,. paid them over 400 quid to debug our house. They used
scanner devices which go to over. 1 GHz and would pick up any nearby
transmitter in that range, they also checked. the phones and found
nothing... but if the tap was at the exchange, then they wouldn't. find
anything,. would they?
CS: >Doesn't this suggest to you that there. are, in fact, no bugs to be found?
You can assume that they've done this sort of thing to. other people in more
"serious" cases, where they. would know the targets would suspect the
presence of electronic. surveillance. So they will have developed techniques
and devices which are not readily detectable. either by visual inspection or
by electronic means.. What those techniques might be, I couldn't guess.
In this case, the existence of bugging devices was. clear from the
beginning, and they "rubbed it in" with what was said by. the boy on the
coach. It was almost as if. they wanted counter-surveillance people to be
called in, who they knew would fail. to detect the bugging devices, causing
loss of credibility to the other things I would have. to say relating to the
harassment.
I did all the things someone in my situation. would do to try to find the
bugs. In addition to calling in professional help using. electronic
counter-surveillance, I made a close visual inspection. of electrical
equipment, plus any points where audio. or video surveillance devices might
have. been concealed. Of course, I found nothing. Normal surveillance
"mini-cameras" are quite noticeable and. require visible supporting
circuitry. It seems to me the best place to put a small video. surveillance
device would be additional to a piece of. electronic equipment such as a TV
or video. It. would be necessary to physically break in to a property to fit
such a. device.

- Crm >> Calendar and Settings sometimes missing in CRM web interfaceI refer to the message below from a few months ago, which Google
informs me I can no longer post to...
http://groups.google.com/groups?as_umsgid=E5891C96-F093-43BF-80D7-48E168ACD54E@microsoft.com
Apparently there is a problem here that is caused by Outlook (with CRM
client) being open when CRM web interface is loaded - that when this
is done, the service schedule calendar is missing, and in my case, so
is the Settings tab/section.
Someone has suggested creating a different DNS alias for outlook to
use to connect to the CRM, so that IE and Outlook are using different
cookies.
Has anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it? Is the alias
method the right way to go? and does this use an additional
application that uses further server resources (i.e. having 2 CRM
instances running at the same time).
Many Thanks,
Martin.

- Money >> Online Update seems to failIn my Portfolio section, I choose to "Update Stocks
Online," and although the screen seems to go through its
usual machinations of calling and completing the contact,
the updates do not occur. My last update was 12/6; I've
been able to update critical prices online by clicking
through to the stock reports, and then entering prices
manually.
To my knowledge, no new software or protection was put

of the usual "largely computer illiterate" options, and
still can't locate the problem.
Any suggestions, anyone?

- SVCS >> Integration with Web AppsCalling Teo Lachev - the only person world wide who acually understands
Report Server Security!!!!
I am confident that I speak for a lot of people with the following scenario:
An existing Web App based in ASP.NET and using Forms Authentication.
They logon in this web app form and they are authorised, they have there
cookie and AuthenticationToken and everything, and they are happily
cruising around the site. No clever security here, just basic Session_ID
relates to Session variables, .ASPXFORMDEMO style client side cookie.
ASP.NET FormsAuthentication allows the pages to be returned.
They want to access a report by clicking on a client URL and go straight
through to the report. The only complication being that the user needs a
role in Report Server.
Currently our FormsAuthentication does something like this:
tkt = New FormsAuthenticationTicket(1, txtUserName.Value,.......
cookiestr = FormsAuthentication.Encrypt(tkt)
ck = New HttpCookie(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName(), cookiestr)
ck.Expires = tkt.Expiration
Response.Cookies.Add(ck)
What do we need to do here to get the Report Server AuthenticationTicket to
the client.

- SBS >> 2000 - 2003 Swing Migration DNS ErrorI have emailed Jeff directly, but I see that the address on the site is
basically New Orleans, so I undertand he may have more pressing
matters. I saw that he and others have answered questions on the
process here.
So...here is my problem.
The first phases of the migration seem to have gone fine. I am now
trying to join my final server to the migration server domain. When I
do, it gives a DNS error that a domain controller could not be found.
The details show:
DNS was successfully queried for the SRV...
The following Domain controllers wre identified
migration05.domainname.local (domain name changed for posting)
It suggests checking if Host (A) record is correct. The host (A)
record on the migration server shows in the forward lookup zone:
migration05 host(A) 192.168.0.3
That is the correct IP address for the migration server.
I can ping the migration server by IP and by name.
I am not very familiar with DNS at this point, but it appears that all
the entries I am familiar with are there.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Steven

- SVCS >> SSRS url's in 2005 vs 2000We are running in a mixed mode environment now with both SQL 2000 and SQL
2005 (RTM). I have noticed that when viewing reports within IE the urls
generated from linked reports are differnt for 2000 and 2005. In SQL 2000
if you clicked on a link within a report to another report it would change
the url in IE with the href. This has changed with SQL 2005 in that the url
does not change but the page does change.
In some cases this is a nice feature, but if you have users that would like
to create their own shortcuts to linked reports this is a problem.
Does anyone know of a setting to allow the ulr behavior to revert back to
the way it was in SQL 2000?
Thank you, Mike

- SBS >> Restore - Disaster RecoveryI have recently purchased small business server 2003, it's all installed,
user accounts, internet, email etc all configured and working and no
particular errors in the event logs
I now come to disaster recovery planning and at the simplest level have used
the backup wizard to create my daily system backups which I assume take care
of everything I need to be concerned about. The backups have been running all
week and are reported to have run successfully.
Following the Microsoft document "Backing Up and Restorubng Windows Small
Business Server 2003" published September 2004 version 3 I have set about
testing a full system recovery.
I follow the procedure to reinstall the operating system from CD1, deleting
and recreating my hdd partitions at the point of installation, and all goes
well until ....
... I cancel the Small Business Server Setup at the appropriate point in the
procedure, insert my backup tape, run ntbackup, expecting then to be able to
fully restore my system, data, active directory, exchange etc, etc but
although my tape is recognised and it has the correct media created date
there does not appear to be a catalog from which to select the appropriate
check boxes.
If I right click on the media I thought I might be able to create a
catalogue but after rewinding the tape I receive a message telling me that
the media cannot be mounted because the drive is already in use.
Clearly I'm going wrong somewhere, but where !!!!
Any thoughts, recommendations or pointers to a solution would be very much
appreciated

- Crm >> CRM 3.0 Outlook Client hangs up Outlook after installationWe have just recently upgraded from CRM 1.2 to CRM 3.0. For the most
part, everything is running good.
However, we have two laptops that don't like the CRM Outlook Client.
After installing, whenever you go to Outlook, it runs fine until you
try to do something CRM related (click on a button on the CRM button
bar, click on a CRM related folder, etc...). Once this happens, Outlook
locks up and the process Outlook.EXE hangs at around 40% CPU
utilization and it just keeps eating up more and more memory until you
kill the process.
Both of these laptops have had CRM 1.2 client on them before. In both
cases, the old client was uninstalled, but the MSDE and other artifacts
were left on the machine.
One of these machines is a Dell and the other a Sony, hence why I'm
wondering if anyone else has seen this problem.
I tried removing the CRM com plug-in from Outlook...oddly enough, it
leaves the toolbar and everything in there. The folders work, but the
toolbar is dead to the world. Note; I had to completely remove the
plugin, just unchecking it doesn't do anything.
On both of these machines I've tried uninstalling everything (including
Outlook, MSDE, and any CRM references) and the issue comes back when I
reinstall.
Hmm...what else can I add...both machines are running Win XP Pro and
Outlook '03. I've tried with Office service pack 1 and 2...no change.
If anyone has a fix for this problem that doesn't require a format and
rebuild, I'd be grateful!

- Compact >> Invoke delegate with argumentsHi,
This is an update to a previous post "Events not firing". Forgive my branch
off the original post.
I am getting an event from a dll which was fired from a different thread than
the UI thread receiving the event. I've read that I need to use the
Control.Invoke method on a control if I wish to modify the control, otherwise
I may get unexpected results like the event not firing etc.
My problem is that the Invoke method takes a delegate with no arguments.
In other words, the event that I receive from my dll has arguments that I wish
to pass to the Control.Invoke.
Can anyone provide some guidance.
Thank You.

1. The laptop takes about 5 minutes durring the "Running Startup Scripts"

2. General use offline is slow (I believe that this is related to persistant
