- Crm >> Virtual PC TrialDo you know if the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Virtual PC Demonstration can be
run on an XP Pro laptop?
I've gone through the whole process but can't seem to get CRM up and running
and wondered if I need Server 2003 (I presumed that would be included in the
VM). There doesn't seem to be any documentation or help in this virtual
environment.
In VM, I can see all the folders related to CRM but where do you start?

- SBS >> Email delivery problemsDear All,
I am receiving the following error when trying to send mail:
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server.
Please contact your system administrator. <ourdomain.org #5.5.0 smtp;550
Unknown local user 'firstname.lastname@theirdomain.org'>
The mail address I'm trying to send to resides on a Win2K/Exchange2K server
situation down stairs in this building. The win2k network and the sbs network
are not connected, but the users work for both companies so their email
addresses overlap ie. jpe.bloggs@ourdomain.org and joe.bloggs@theirdomain.org.
Can anyone shine any light on this subject for me...please

- Crm >> Default Web SiteWhat is the significance of the Default Web Site? When should one choose to
install to the Default Web Site vs. creating a New Web Site for the CRM 3.0
deployment?
This is a CRM 3.0 Professional installation on a member server (Web Server)
in an SBS 2003 environment.
I just noticed in the Implementation Guide, when installing on an SBS box:
"Do not install Microsoft CRM to the default Web site."
When installing on a Windows Server (member Web Server, for me) it says: on
the Select Web Site Page, select a Web site from the Web site list. Or
select the Create New Web Site option and setup will create a new Web site
for Microsoft CRM Server.
I did install to the default Web Site on the member server, and it is
working fine. But I may want to change this URL when I go to make it
Web-accessible from the external Internet.
Is it easy enough to change your CRM Web Site (URL) at a later date?
Thanks,

- SVCS >> Integer to HH:MM:SSHi,
In SRS 2K, how can I take a field that is listed as an integer (say 60),
and make it look like 01:00:00 in the report? Is there a way to do this in
the Textbox Properties window using the Custom Format section?
Thanks.

- SBS >> (local)\SBSMONITORING The network path was not foundHi,
I have a problem where after installing TrendMicro (and another MSD
for it) my SBS Monitoring does not work. I think I have narrowed i
down to the (local)/SBSMONITORING SQL Server no longer runnin
correctly.
In the SQL Server Service Manager it says "Not connected
\\(local)\SBSMONITORING
If I try to select "services" on the SQL Server it says "The networ
path was not found"
I have now uninstalled the TrendMicro MSDE but the problem remains.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can recover from this? I have
feeling something is now pointing to the wrong place but am not sur
where to look.
Regards,
Hanne

- SBS >> What to do when boot partition is fullI have a customer that has a SBS 03 server that was installed long before I
got involved. Now that I am involved, I have informed them several times
that the disk space on c: is almost gone (currently at 150 mg) , but they
have yet to take action. You and I both know that they will not take action
until they are out of disk space.
My question is: How do you recover from a c: partition is full symptom? I
have never had to deal with a full boot and system partition problem before,
and there seems to be limited information in the texts and online.
Any help would be appreciated.

- Compact >> Too many directories returned by storage card detection functionsHi all,
I have a Windows CE device on which I'm trying to detect the storage card
directory path.
I know that a way to discover it is to use OpenNetCF functions, that check
for Directory and Temporary attribute.
The problem is that on that device there are also other 2 directories with
that attributes, but I know that they aren't storage card directories (they
are called 'Backup' and 'Network' directories, and they are integrated in
the device OS image).
All the functions that I tried to use (OpenNetCF, FindFirstFlashCard as
explained in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/En-US/library/aa458874.aspx) return
also these other 2 directories, so I can't programmatically recognize the
storage card....also SHGetAutoRunPath function, when a storage card is not
inserted, return a path starting by '\Network\...'.
Is there any way to get only the real storage card path?
From Control Panel, there is a section called 'Storage Manager', and inside
that I can see as store info the main store and the storage card (when
inserted), is there a standard function that recognize the storage card,
discarding the 'Network' and 'Backup' folders?

- SVCS >> Reporting Services PDF SizeIs there any way to shrink the file size of the PDF? When I resave the
file with Acrobat it is much smaller.
I can create the same report with crystal reports and have a much
smaller PDF..
Maybe it is a DPI setting or something?
2Meg 1 page PDFs are just not cutting it for me. There must be a way
to knock the file size down.
Thanks,

- Compact >> sockets not seeing the world :(Hi
I have been programming for years but am just starting to develop
mobile apps for wm5. im using visual studio 2008, but did start my
development on visual studio 2003.
I am trying to implement some parts of an ftp client into a compact
app using sockets. Within vs2003 this worked fine both in an emulator
and running the app on a device via the activesync link, but when i
created a cab file for the app and installed it on my device it would
not connect to the network, failing on the connect command (connecting
to an endpoint)
I have since moved to vs2008 and i am now unable to get my application
to connect to the outside world both on the emulator and the device. I
have tried opening the web browser on the emulator and am unable to
access a web page, which tells me it has no internet connection. thats
fair enough i can see why that wont work but when i install the app
onto my device i have tried opening a normal data connection and wifi,
both allow me to open web pages, but neither allow my socket to
connect
anyone got any ideas??

- Crm >> Re: in subject change Token?I have noticed that when anyone replies to an email message that I have been
tracking more times then not it does not come back as being tracked. If I
promote it within outlook it will more times then not pick up the token and
track it against the opportunity case, etc.. I had it tracking against in the
first place.
It seems that the messages that do this are messages that people reply to
and there email client adds the prefix Re: to the subject line. Consider
most email clients do this it makes sense that very few messages are
automatically tracked.
My question: When an email client changes the subject line will MS CRM
loose tracking? Or is there something else going on that I should look at?

- Compact >> Is it possible to run CE emulator (smartphone) on another computerI'd like to run the emulator on a computer that does not have vs2005
installed. I know how to save the image and restart it from my dev box but

1. What do I need to install on the other (XP) computer to run the emulator?
2. Where is the "saved" image stored on my computer?
Thanks..

- Compact >> Newbie Emulator QuestionI'm completly new to developing for handheld devices. I've been playing
around with the emulator, and I have a question regarding the shared folder.
It appears that when you define a shared folder for an emulator it represents
a SD card, or the equivalent.
Now I create a text file using word and move it to the shared folder, then I
want to edit the folder in place on the storage card, but it always gives an
error that it's out of space on the card.
So my question is, do I need to define certain security permissions on the
folder that I want to use as the storage card space? Or am I way off base and
you shouldn't be editing files in place on a storage card?
Any information or links to more information would be awesome!
Thanks,
matt

- SBS >> exchange OWA .ost online/cached mode issues-SBS2003 R2 STANDARD-1 NIC-EXCHANGE SP2-
Hi all,
Have a strange one here:
For the last week now I have been experiencing inbound emails not appearing
in clients outlook inbox. Most do, but the odd one (random senders) do not
appear. If you logon to OWA you can see the email. If you move the email from
within OWA from the root inbox to another folder, it will appear in the
clients outlook.
It is as though the Outlook .ost files are not properly syncing with exchange.
All Outlook clients are set to cached exchange mode, and if set to online
mode temporarily, the previously hidden emails do show.
The clients are a mix of Outlook 2003 / 2007.
On one client I proceded to build a new .ost file follwing this help:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997781.aspx
but this did not solve the problem locally.
Is anyone aware of certain tests/procedures I can run on exchange server
side to diagnose/clean this problem?
Appreciate your help...

- SVCS >> Back button for drilldown reportsHereâ??s a good question for the knowledgeable: I have been experimenting with
drilldown reports (where a report item is linked to a â??Jump to Reportâ??
action). In the designer there is a nifty little button that allows me to
move back to the previous report (level). This button does not seem apparent
in the Report Manager.
Am I missing something? I realize that there is IEâ??s â??backâ?? button however
that does not always return me to the previous report. For example if I
toggle the visibility of an item the browserâ??s â??backâ?? button will return me
to the previous state (hidden) as opposed to back to the report from which
this one was called.

- Compact >> Restrict a Pocket PC to just one applicationI am just starting development on a PocketPc 2003 application where the
customer (think of him as Kim Jong-il) wants this application to be the ONLY
application available to the persons that will use it. Basically he wants
the device to start up running this application and to refuse to allow the
user to close the application. I know, I know. This is a most draconian
view of the world, but he is footing the bill, and wants FULL CONTROL of
what the user can use the device for.
Realistically how close can to his ideal can I get him?
Does the Pocket PC have the equivalent of a windows start up folder?
Can I make my app the replace the Today screen?
Is there any way to have my app refuse to close and refuse to be sent to the
background?
Is there any way to make the START menu disappear?
Failing that how to remove all items from the Start menu, but the ones that
Kim Jong-il approves of?
Failing that require some sort of authentication to run other programs?
Even though I enjoy making fun of my client, he does have a sound business
reason for the request. His business provides a short term rental
(typically just a few days) of the application already installed on the
device, up and running, ready to do all that it does. He just wants to
reduce the number of service desk calls caused by a customer "experimenting"
with this totally cool device.
Can anyone point me into the right direction?

- Compact >> Playing high quality audio filesI've been playing with Recorder class from OpenNETCF.Multimedia.Audio
in order to record .wav files. I need to play these audio files for
some users but I see that they take too much space. A small .wav of 15
seconds (recorded at maximum quality) is taking 1,75 Mb and that's
impossible when talking about PPC's storage space.
Is there any way of having ligthweigth audio files with medium-high
quality and be able to play them with CF 2.0? What about MP3 playing?
Supported in Windows Mobile 2003 and 2003 SE? I suppose Windows Mobile
5.0 will do it, but I'm afraid previous OS-s will not.
What about deploying the audio files with the final output? Is it
better to deploy them separately and left them in a specific folder or
include them as embeeded resources? I can need more or less 10-15 audio
files, therefore I think including them as embeeded resources can make
the final .exe very heavy.
Could anybody advise me about this audio issues? It really hurries me.
Thanks very much.
