SBS >> Missing mail Hello I'm back.

I have built a new Server from the latest pack which allows the Standard and
Premium editions.

It claims to configure my router (RTA300), but I can't see any changes from
my manual setting. The old pack at least said it couldn't do the router.

Also I am using dyndns.org to to the clever things for DNS, and when I send
mail to my hotmail account it arrives, when I reply, I haven't found a
single one, the same happens for my ISP pop3 account.

I have run the ICW wizzard several times to try to get some action.

What have I done wrong to annoy the Computer Gods.

Don

SBS >> Missing mail Don, You may as well be talking Babylonian.
Mind putting that into some sort of technical description that those of
us who aren't mindreaders can understand ?

What version of SBS ?
POP3 Connector or Exchange ?
Is Port 25 open Inwards ?
What errors appear in the Event Logs ?
Any NDAs ?
Have you turned on logging in exchange and what does that show ?
Have you checked that your MX and A records are set up properly ?
What is the network Schema ?

SBS >> Missing mail Hi Henry

(1) Not only SBS but Enterprise as well. SBS 2K3 Clt eval , and 2003
enterprise from Advantage pack. I have made the same mistake in both.

(2) Both MS Exchang server. The one in the Enterprise version has been fully
upgraded. The SBS yet to be.

(3) Port 25 is instructed to be open.

(4) No errors have appeared.

(5) No ND A's

(6) Logging is not yet turned on.

(7) I will check MX and A records.

(8) The schema is unchanged from the build from the installation CD's

I have ADSL from a known good providor, a Dynanlink RTA 300 router, two
servers with dual NIC's. The workstations hang off an 8 port switch.

You have already helped even if I talk Babylonian.

Don

SBS >> Missing mail - Check your MX/A first.
- See if you can ping the Mail Server.
- See if you can Telnet to Port 25 from outside.

SBS >> Missing mail Hi Henry

There may have been a simpler explanation found.

I now dont belive the wizzard, I can do a better job on the RTA 300U than it
can.

When the intrnet arives at its NIC it is at 192.168.1.5, and the Virtual
servers all point to that IP. When playing with two servers I allowed DHCP
in the router, to assign 192.168.1.2 to this server. I also made a second
set of pinholes to point to this second IP.

When I set the Internet NIC in this SBS machine to be 192.168.1.5 and
removed the pinholes for 192.168.1.2, messages appeared. Many of them.

Now if the Enterprise version which is the rightfull owner of 192.168.1.5
behaves like this one, then I have won this little battle.

Thanks for your help

Don

SBS >> Missing mail I'm glad you worked it out Don, however I have to admit you totally lost
me somewhere amongst the virtual servers and the pinholes.

SBS >> Missing mail Hi Henry

It happend in my test setup, not a live system, and I now know that two
servers can't operate in parallel. Even if they are not simultaneously
connectd.

I prefer to refer to open ports as Virtual Servers, but a tech at my ISP
calls them pinholes, so I tried both on you.

Now I rebuild the SBS with a different domain, and take it to demonstrate to
a legal firm.

SBS >> Missing mail Thanks for that. I was sort of guessing at the Pinholes, but the VSs had
me totally confused.

Wishing you great success with the demo.
It's a great product so they should see a lot of Value Add in it for
them.
