thats reasonable, but also keep in mind things like geographical location
season duration of assignement, range of duties, difficulty factor, etc
most of all, are you going to be satisfied with those dollars ? or feel
sore about it if you hear about someone else getting a few dollars more on a
similar assignment ? If you feel unsatisfied, it'll show, so decide up
front whether it will be enough, and then quite thinking about it and focus
on the work. Employers wll gladly offer high recommendatons for eager and
willing workers and you can guess what they'll have to say about greedy or
mal-content workers. soon enough you'll be plenty familiar with the rates
in your area.

Dat depends on a lot of factors.
As you didnt specify the geographical location,
its hard to answer.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the Internet, where many people in many
countries come to read and write. I would suggest that your intelligence
level doesn't command $70/hour, whether that be in Canadian, NZ, US, or any
other country's dollar.
Oh, I see you're a consultant, in that case you're underpaid.

Kevin asks a reasonable question and gets smart alec respsonses. Real
helpful from a group that is intended to support one another..Do not be
disheartened Kevin... This is the proper place, and you are welcome to come
here with whatever questions you have...
However, rates will vary from region to region, and due to the availability
of the service you are providing as well as the length of the engagement. I
do not see anything unreasonable about your rates.... You will find some
people will charge less , and others will charge much much more.
If you are comfortable with the fee, and are able to get work, then it is a
good fee!

Hi Kevin
Most corporations in Australia / New Zealand would generally look for more
than 4 years experience when engaging consultants and AUS$70 would probably
be considered as close to market or slightly high in our terms given the
experience level. However, there's much more to assessing the value of a
consultant than simply counting the years of experience.

$70 per hour is good. Or bad. Depending on whether you can make more
or less, doing whatever you do wherever you do it.
We have a local DB programmer who charges $25 an hour. He does Access
databases in his spare time for small businesses, who are thrilled
with him. His total projects might run a few hundred bucks.
We have a consultant group locally who charges $180 an hour to
basically answer the phone. They specialize in integrating disparate
medical databases and converting patient data between formats. I'd be
surprised if they have projects under $50,000 that they even consider.
Remember though, most likely your clients aren't either of thiers,
you're not working in the same area as they are and you have different
expenses than they do. So pretty much, any answer you get that tells
you a price is useless to you.
