SQL Server >> Running Enterprise and Standard

Hi all,

I am intending to install a multi instance SQL server - I
wish to install Enterprise on one instance and Standard
on the other, is there any reason why this will not work
before I go ahead? I intend to install these instances on
Windows Server 2003.

Please help

Colin

SQL Server >> Running Enterprise and Standard Hi Colin,

Thank you for using MSDN Newsgroup! It's my pleasure to assist you on your issue.

First of all, I would like to confirm that I understand the issue correctly.
From your description, you want to install different editions (Enterprise and Standard) of SQL
Server on the same Operating System (Windows Server 2003). However, you encountered
some problems to go ahead, right?

Could you describe how you perform this installation so that I can reproduce the problem you
met with? I'm afraid I do not understand fully on your words "Is there any reason why this will not
work before I go ahead?" Could you specify the steps you install these two editions and
what's the error message you get when you want to go ahead.

Based on my research, the computer should be restarted after you install one edition of SQL
Server and attempt to install another edition on the same Operating System. Assume you
have finished installing the Enterprise Edition; before installing the Standard Edition, you
should restart the computer because the previous installation created Pending File
Operations on the computer, which prevent you from installing another instance.

To , you can take the following actions:
1. Closing all the SQL Server Services
2. Restart the computer
3. Do not start any SQL Server Services
4. Install the Standard Edition

If you the problem still occur after you restart the computer and install the other SQL Server
edition, please provide more information I mentioned above. I'd like to perform problem
reproducing and further troubleshooting on your issue. Thanks in advance!
