- Windows XP >> Random Restarts???in the past week my computer has been restarting itself
at random time intervals. This happens whien i am
connected and disconnected from the internet and i have
the blaster worm virus fix (and norton AV with up to date
virus definitions)so i dont think that it is this. There
is not set time between restarts and no warning that it
is going to happen?????. please help me

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> My computer isn't detecting disksHey, my computer isn't detecting disks in its drive. I believe that it is the
C Drive, but I'm not sure. It's the drive where you would put CDs and
CD-ROMs. For a couple weeks, it hasn't been detecting any music CDs I've put
in for download or any of the CD-ROMs. Nothing happens. Can anyone help me?
Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

- Windows XP Network >> accessing shared foldersAll machines are XP Home. All can access the internet.
When I first start up I can access all the shared folders
on other machines. An hour later I cannot access any of
the folders. I have to shut down and start up again. A
simple restart won't do it. Any suggestions????

- Windows XP >> Windows XP does not utilize half of my RAMHi everyone,
I have Win XP SP2, and 2GB of RAM.
For some reason, the OS always leaves ~1GB of RAM free, and starts
using the hard drive pagefile rather aggressively (sometimes up to
1-2GB is paged out, while 1GB of RAM is still free).
I would like XP to start using the other 1GB, before paging file.
Any settings that I should modify?

I finally found out that I had to download List001.exe program.
When I run it, I am asked where I which it to be placed. Never saw that
before, thus do not know the answer.

- Windows XP >> Saving images from internetI am using windows XP and internet explorer 6, recently when i have tried to
save images from the internet , it will only allow me to save the image as
'untitled' and only as a bmp. even animated gifs can only be saved as a
bmp.This seems to coincide with changing to broadband but everything else
has remained the same. Any suggestions of what I need to tweak will be
appreciated

there was a way to backup the windows updates from the
windows update website. Then, reinstall them back to my
computer, because it would be time-consuming to re-
download a year's worth of updates.

- Windows XP >> System restore problems.For the period that i've had my pc I never actually known about restore
points, or anything like that. Until I had a problem.. I tried restoring it
only to find out I hadn't created nor had any restore points. Is there any
way of putting my pc back to its original state without the restore points,
because I've tried and I still can't figure it out.. and the problem I have
basically screws up everything and basically nothing works now.

- Windows XP Update >> Clients need up to 45 minutes to boot windows since patchingHi,
I have a lot of trouble :-(
About 20 clients of our domain need up to 45 minutes to boot windows xp,
since I have patched these clients with 918899 and 920214 over wsus. The
rest of the clients are ok. When windows xp starts, it loads first the
network-settings. Thats ok, but the clients begin to hang for about 45
minutes by loading the computer-settings.
Does anyone know this problem?

- Windows XP Support >> article id 315311I've received a message during start up 'Windows could not start because the
following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\drivers\isapnp.sys'
I tried to follow the article's suggestion but ran into a few problems:
1. the command ren c:\windowssystem32\drivers\isapnp.sys isapnp.old yield
me a message simular to the name is not a file or directory. Going to the
directory and performing a dir confirmed that the file exist. Using the
delete or del command yielded me the same results.
2. after doing the expand command, the workstation just keeps rebooting
itself during startup

Hello,
I have a windows XP (pro) machine with two user accounts.
I use Internet explorer 6. I have several shortcuts on
the quick launch toolbar. It used to be that once I
changed the order of the icons on the toolbar, the changes
remained in effect the next time I booted the machine.
However, something happened some time ago that caused the
icons to be automatically rearranged every time I log onto
the machine. I played with different arrangement
settings, but it all seems to revert back to the same
order once I reboot. This only happens to one user
account. The other user account still works fine. I
tried deleteing the toolbar completely and started from
scratch, but the same problem still exists.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?

- Windows XP >> Activation?I'm a fairly advanced computer user and I upgrade my PC fairly often, well
it seems that now it's gotten to the point that I cannot activate my Windows
XP without calling in. What is really annoying about this problem is this:
1. I cannot activate online.
2. The automated telephone activation will not work.
3. Talking to someone DOES work.
Why do I have to actually speak to someone to activate my Windows? If
Windows activates just fine when I speak to someone, then what's the
necessity to have it not activate for the first 2 ways?
I don't mind activation as a way to prevent rampant piracy but there comes a
point when it starts to annoy us legitimate customers who simply have too
much money for our own good.

Out of the blue it won't open and has this message:
C:/ProgramFiles/:MSWorks/MSWORKS.EXE is not a valid Win32 application
I don't know what this means and I don't know what to do. What could
possibly have caused this and is there a way to fix it?

my computer has been giving a lot of problems lately..i
have win xp professional and the computer hangs like 5
times a day. I have to reset the computer then...and it's
very annoying. i haven't been able to determine the cause
of this behaviour...i reformatted my comp., installed xp
again, and still the same problem. i was using a usb
modem but have switched to enet but still the same
problem. i have no idea what's wrong..and would
appreciate some help.

up: Your current settings prohibit Active X on this page. The page may not
load properly.
Can you remedy this, I have messed around with my internet options (in
control panel/security center) but have not had any success can you help.

office computer can't remember what he used for a
password so the entire computer is useless to me! It's
not online yet. I have tried every password I can think
of. Does anyone know a way to get around this so I can
disable the password permanently?

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Problem with Explorer.exe (Re-installing XP)I am having a serious problem with my XP. I installed an
updated Shockwave the other day, and after restarting the
computer I have been unable to open any aspect of
Explorer. Any program that uses explorer will not open - I
get a message that states there was an error and the
option to send to microsoft, blah, blah.
Programes that do not use explorer (i.e. Outlook), open
albeit slow. I think I want to just go ahead and re-
install XP. The problem is that I can not access the
Add/Remove control panel. Unfortunately, that program uses
explorer as well - I have tried "updating" or doing a
repair install w/out luck.
How do I uninstall (and reinstall) XP w/out going through
the Add/Remove control panel - or is there a way to access
the panel other than through the Control Panel file in the
Start menu?

- Windows XP Update >> Language pack installation failHi!
I am using Windows Vista Ultimate (x64), english version. I wanted to
Install the Swedish Language Pack from Microsoft Update, but during the
installation, I get an error message that the install failed. Error code 2.
I have searched the internet by Google and found out that others have this
problem too, but there hasn't been found a solution yet. Please help me solve
this.

- Windows XP Security >> May have a potentially Serious ProblemAs everyone knows I run Windows XP SP2 Home Edition. I have invested in
McAfee Security Suite. My problem just started happening recently. I logged
on the computer and Privacy Service came up, just like it's Supposed to and I
enter the password, no problem there. However. While waiting for the rest to
boot. A System folder (supposed to be hidden) popped up all at once. No
explanation and no reason for it. I tried to re-hide it and when I did the
system locked, so I had to unhide it. Now It's been a little over a week
since this happened and I'm stumped. It's a Windows/System files. It has
several different types of folders which is supposed to be hidden. Can anyone
help? I'll get the exact folder name to ya as soon as possible..

Black Screen it says (PARSE ERROR at Line 173)I was told
by someone that it was the graphic user interface and
that the system had to be Reloaded or ReImaged. What do I
do to correct this, and how do I do it...? I do not get a
Windows XP screen, and when I click on the Error message
(OK) I can log on after a few trys, can I reinstall the
WindowsXP Operating system Disk...? can someone Please

open the task manager, and it will open for about 1
second and then close. How do I get it to stay open? I
need to close some running programs so they can be
uninstalled.

prompted to save the username and password, but it isn't working. I've

- Windows XP Setup >> "Slave" drive not recognized on New XP installMy old Hard Drive crashed and I replaced it with a 120Gig and at the same
time switched from W2K to XP Pro.
The problem is that I had the files from the old drive - about 30 Gig
worth - saved to the old slave HD but XP won't recognize and "Letter" the
"Slave" until it's reformated which means that I'd lose all the files, which
something I can't have happen.
There has to be a way around this and if anyone can help I'd be very
grateful.
