Windows XP Update >> 1 or 4 updates for Win98-ME?
There had been no updates for the WinMe computer since the flaky 891711 in mid
March. (At that time, I soon uninstalled kb891711, after a few tries to proceed through,
and note, errors.)
Yesterday I ran the update site for WinMe, but only noted that winupdate site found and
installed only two updates. One was the replacement 891711, the other was new (I
assume it was new).
I conclude: Only one new update for WinMe, right?
However, today auto-update on WinXp listed these (below). Note that 4 are said to also
apply to 98,98se,me. So I just now ran winupdate site on WinMe computer, yet it says
there are no new updates.

Windows XP Update >> 1 or 4 updates for Win98-ME?
"MSOsWin",
The scanning tool takes into account the hotfixes you have already installed.
This is why you are not presented with 4 updates. I have a Millennium box here
and I was offered just 2 as well. This is normal. The two I was offered were:
KB891711
KB890923
As proof of this, when you look in the more... link for 890923, and you see
this: "This update does include hotfixes that have been released since the
release of MS04-004 or MS04-025 but they will only be installed on systems that
need them."
This is very likely the scenario you are seeing here. You have many of the
updates, so you are not being offered all of them in April.
Sincerely,
Pat Walters [MSFT]

i was vaguely wondering that might be the type of explanation. but since xp updates are auto (almost auto. actually, instant
alert and download, but pops up to receive OK to install) and ME updates are completely manual. the scenario suggests that
the updates were released for 9x *before* they were released for xp (via xp's background update feature)

this still seems more of a curious question... not super critical for me. i wondred if other people were wondering. :-)
