- Windows XP Network >> WinXP IPsec ICF bug?!Hello,
I have encountered a strange problem.
I've set up a WinXP-Freeswan 1.98b ipsec tunnel
connection.
Everthing works fine if I disable Internet Connection
Firewall (ICF).
If I enable ICF I can only get ping replys. Firewall
blocks every oher connection. In pfirewall.log I can see
that the firewall drops TCP 40,48,60,68 ports.
How can I set ICF to allow protocols 47,50,51 (ESP,AH).
I can allow UDP port 500 (IKE) with no prob. Or specify
that the local addresses (192.168.x.x) are not filtered.
Thanx for your help

- Windows XP >> Catelog of Event IDs and SourcesI have been working on a problem involving some errors in my System log. I
was able to solve the problems, but it seems like the process was more
difficult than it should have been because I had a hard time figuring out
from the error code exactly which service was causing the problem. I had
some 4008 and 4010 errors and the LPDSVC service was the source. It turns
out that the TCP/IP Print Services service was not started. The problem was
that the information I found regarding these errors never indicated a
linkage between LPDSVC and the TCP/IP Print Services service. If it had,
starting up that service would have been my first move. It would be handy
if there was a list along the lines of the following:
Source Services
-------- ---------
LPDSVC TCP/IP Print Services
any other service that are related to LPDSVC
Is there a way to get a list, or is there a catalog somewhere, of all the
error sources and their corresponding services?

- customize >> Autocomplete web address problemI can't seem to get rid of the drop down box suggestions. I've cleared
history and still they appear. I've cleared all forms/passwords and they
still apear. I've downloaded and ran "cleaning" programs and still they
appear.
I can disable the drop down, but it reappears from time to time after an
upgrade to IE. My son went to some sites that are for adults and I would
really like to wipe them from my history.

- Windows XP Support >> XP Professional Installation ProblemI am updating from XP Home to XP Professional on a new Acer TraveMate
2308WLMi laptop.
I have encountered a 'Copy Error' that has come up which says
"Setup cannot copy the file migregdb.ex_. Ensure the disk labeled 'Windows
XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD' is in the drive selected below, or provide
the location where the file can be found."
I can see the file that it is looking for in the I386 folder but it is in
capitals rather than lowercase - is this the problem and how do I solve it?
Many thanks for any advice offered.

- Windows XP >> 'Can't find requested string' ?All right: so what is the point of XP(Pro) telling me this without telling
me what string it is looking for?!
There is an icon which I do not recognize in the Control panel - sort of a
blue lozenge - alongside which is 'Can't find requested string'.
A similar symbol appears with the same epithet on one of the
Display/Properties/Advanced tabs.
'Can't find requested string' also appears three times in the right click
screen dialogue.
The advanced tab version seemed to be monitor details, so I reloaded the
monitor driver, but this has made no difference.
How do I trace these faults and correct them?
Thanks in advance,

- Windows XP Security >> Can't type in login screenSomething happened a while back and now the keyboard doesn't work in the login screen. Clicking on a user without a password works. Trying to type a password doesn't. When using the traditional login, can't type user or password. Once logged in the keyboard works. Also tried a usb keyboard (regular one is PS2).
Any ideas?

- Windows XP >> wuauclt.exe stuck on...Hi there,
Windows XP and the "wuauclt.exe" is stuck on in the task manager after boot
up. It makes the processor run at 100%. I can end the process manually and
that takes care of it for a while, then it comes back on again.
How do I get rid of it so I can make the computer run normally again?
Thanks,

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> XP & WinDoctorI have a new system with WIN XP NT File System installed.
In the past on my Old Win98 system I regualry used
Symantec's WinDoctor from their Norton's System Works...I

My question is: Is there something comparable in WIN XP
that I can use.
Also, if not, are there any known issues with with XP NTFS
and Win Doctor.
My old NSW is not compatible with WIN XP and I dont; want
to have to go out and buy another version if there is
something in WIN XP itslef I can use.
I have search MS knowledge base and bascially come up with

Windows XP >> Change font size with control/mouse wheel stopped working in OE 6
I have IE 7 & Outlook Express 6. I've always been able to change the font
size at will with control & rolling my mouse wheel. It still works with IE,
but for reasons beyond my comprehension, it stopped working in OE. I can
change the font size within an email account through options, & I can change
the font in an individual email through view. But the wheel was very
convenient, & it bothers me that it just stopped working. Rebooting didn't
help. Can anyone explain this or offer suggestions to fix the problem? Thank
you.

Windows XP >> Change font size with control/mouse wheel stopped working in OE 6
An update. I used system restore to roll back before I installed IE 7 and the
function worked again. When I reinstalled IE 7, it stopped again. So IE 7
appears to conflict with the control/wheel font size change in OE. Ah well...

You might want to look through the messages in the internet explorer
newsgroup which is where IE7 issues should be posted. Someone may have
encountered this and found a solution. Also check the OE newsgroups.

Thank you for the links-- I'll check into it. I remember when Microsoft
released Windows XP SP 2-- it conflicted with all sorts of things. I
appreciate your input.

- Windows XP >> USB stick drive recognitionI have a new laptop with XP professional that I use on my
companies network and standalone on the road.
On trying to use a usb mass storage device while
disconnectd from the system, the computer recognizes new
hardware and indicates its ready to use. Under "My
Computer", Removable Storage devices, there is no new
drive for the flash disk.
However, if I boot the system with the flash disc already
in the usb port, it will show up under a drive that is
disconnected from network under "my computer' and network
connections.
Suggestions for getting this to plug and play correctly?

and I cannot.
I installed FPort and it did not list the port being mapped to an
application running on my machine.
Anyway, I am wondering what I should do at this point? are there any other
tools that may help find the culprit program?
I appreciate any info. thank you.

- Windows XP Hardware >> Intermittent "Disk Boot Failure"I'm using XP Pro on a Pentium 4 1.8GHz machine with two hard drives. At
least a couple of times a day, I'll hear two (2) beeps, and the machine will
suddenly stop responding. If I manually reboot immediately, the boot will
halt at "Searching for IDE drives," and I'll end up with a "DISK BOOT
FAILURE" message.
However, if I unplug the machine and wait a few minutes, I can reboot
normally. After a few hours, the cycle will repeat itself.
I've checked all my connections, and they appear to be sound. Could this
issue possibly be related to overheating?
Any opinions/suggestions on how to solve this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Four PCs: 1-Win 2000 Pro, 1-Win Xp Pro SP2, 1-Win Xp Home SP2 (usb ink jet

All run Windows Defender, Window Security Center (Firewall), and all have

The MCE PC cannot see any of the other PCs shares or the ink jet printer on

Any ideas why one of the four PCs in the WORKGROUP wouldn't play well with
