- Windows XP >> Email Attachment - Outlook Express 6 Vs. Ms Office Outlook 2003Hello Email Experts,
Why I cannot view the attachment in the Outlook Express 6 when my friend
send it thru Ms Office Outlook 2003. But if I switch to Ms Office Outlook
2003 to receive the mail, & I can see the attachment contents. Is there any
update for Outlook Express 6, so that I can view the attachment, If I want
to continue receive mail using Outlook Express 6.
Thanks in advance.

- Windows XP Security >> Using SRP to allow users rights to certain files.Can SRP be used to allow a USER to install a certain program if that
program EXE is listed as "Allowed" under Additional Rules?
Also, is there another rule aside from Unrestricted? That one
allows/disallows based on user level. Is there anyway where it would
universally allow without considering the user level?

- Windows XP Security >> XP SP2 blocks PDF filesEver since installing SP2 over Win XP Pro I can no longer
open locally-stored PDF files in my browser. For example,
if I create an HTML document and link to a PDF file on my
hard drive, it will not open and instead I get a security
warning and an image placeholder that displays in the
upper left corner. This occurs even though I select the
option to "allow blocked content" when prompted by the
Information Bar.
What's strange is that SP2 does allow me to launch Acrobat
and open PDF files across the Internet, but not those
stored locally on my hard drive.
A solution would be greatly appreciated.

- Windows XP >> documents and settingsI don't know how to do a screen capture, but under my D&S folder there are
20 sub-folders. There is Admistrator, Administrator.Goldberg,
administrator.goldberg.ooo, all users, all users.windows, etc. Some are
localservice.nt authority.xxx, networkservice.nt authority.xxx, etc.
I would like to know which ones I can consolidate, and how do I know which
is the "main" one my computer is using so after consolidation I can delete
the other folders.
Some of the sub-folders are Application Data, Cookies, Desktop, etc but the
sub-folders are not the same in each folders, i.e. not all have "application
data".
Thanks!!

- Windows XP Basic >> A newbie question: activating XPGreetings,
I'm new to Windows - have been using Mac for many years. In order to run
some of the sofware I need for my work I bought an used PC, NetVista by
IBM, where the terminal and system is made as one unit. It had Windows
XP installed in it. Surprisingly, the system turned out to be very
stable, with no problems and crashes. But I guess it's a human nature to
create problems where there aren't any...
Each time upon startup I was getting a message "new upgrade is ready for
your computer." First I was ignoring it, but then one not so fine day I
thought, "what the heck, let's do update and see what happens." What
actually happened is that my computer downloaded Service Pack 2 and then
asked me to activate the Windows. When I pressed the activation, it
informed me that my product code had been used by another computer and I
need to pay $240 for activation. I paid for this computer much less
than that and, besides, I'm planning to buy a brand new system in a
couple of months.
So what should I do now? Before I installed the Service Pack 2 it never
asked for any activation. Now it gave me 30 days to activate. From
reading other posts in this group I realize that after 30 days my system
will stop working. Should I try to restore the system to previous state
by unistalling SP2? I just need this computer for a couple of more
months before I buy a new one. One more thing: when I bought it, I
bought it "as is" (at office liquidation sale) - with no disks or
instructions. It never occured to me that my OS might by pirated - it
was seemly respectable office, after all. I haven't talked yet to
Microsoft customer service yet.
Thank you in advance for any help and advice.

- Windows XP >> Work Offline/Try again messageVery frequently "Work Offline/Try Again message" pops up
while I'm in the Internet Explorer, and yet I'm on a
cable connection with other internet items up and
running. Is there a reason for this or a setting I need
to modify to stop this, or could it be a firewall setting?

Actually, those problems are symptomatic of virus infection. Are you
sure your av program is current and the definitions are updated? You
might want to download Stinger from McAfee and run it in Safe Mode just
to be sure. Remember to disable System Restore first.

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> digital photos no longer in focusOk I need some help. I have used Adobe Photoshop album to make simple slideshows. I don't do anything to the photos except drag them to the desired position. However when I do the same with moviemaker2 which provides so much more extras, the slideshow is clearly not in focus. It looks just slightly out of focus. The photos are taken with a 6.0 meg Fuji camera and again I don't do anything like resize them or change them for Adobe so I fugured it should be the same for moviemaker2. Help cause the program look so cool. Please be nice because some of you look like you are sorta mean. I guess I will take my chances..Thanks so much for any nice input, and my sons baseball team will thankyou also

- Windows XP >> Custom Memory Settings Lost after Re-BootI just built a new machine with a gigabyte of RAM & shouldn't need a 1 1/2
gigabyte page file. I have gone through the steps to customize the pagefile
settings and they work fine until I re-boot. Then I find that pagefile.sys
has again swollen to 1535 MB. At first I thought that my settings of min 20
/ max 100 were simply too low and therefore ignored by XP. But even with
settings of Min 200 / Max 800 I'm seeing the same behavior. The Bill James
pagefile monitor shows typical session usage hovers around 10-15 MB. What am
I missing here?

- Windows XP Network >> Unable to ping laptopGood Morning
I have a laptop running on our corporate network. For some unknown reason it
is not possible to ping this laptop. I have started it in safe mode with
networking and suddenly its pingable. I have re-installed the network
drivers, disabled many services & drivers using msconfig but still cant pin
point the problem. I have also tried it on another network port and IP adress
to no avail. Windows firewall is disabled (it was on SP1 when i first looked
at the issue) and I have already re-installed the network card. If i put a
new disk with a basic image into the laptop it works fine which rules out
hardware / xp compatibillity issues, network issues. I am sure a rebuild will
fix it but this laptop is going to be a pain to rebuild....any ideas?? The
way that it works fine under safe mode is really bugging me! arrrrrgh!
Many Thanks

- Windows XP >> Pac file not working in XP Pro SP2 IE6Hi all,
Last few days I tried several "Proxy Auto Configuration" (PAC) files but
none of them working in my IE6. Even tried the no-ads.pac file of
http://www.schooner.com/~loverso/no-ads/no-ads.zip
Please find below the last tried unsuccessful Pac file:-
function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
{
if(shExpMatch(url, "http://127.0.0.1/*")) return "DIRECT";
if(shExpMatch(url, "http:*")) return "PROXY 127.0.0.1:5000";
if(shExpMatch(url, "https:*")) return "DIRECT";
if(shExpMatch(url, "gopher:*")) return "DIRECT";
if(shExpMatch(url, "ftp:*")) return "DIRECT";
return "DIRECT";
}
I performed the following to run the pac file but not succeeded.
IE6 cache cleared but still not working.
EnableAutoProxyResultCache in Registry set Dword value 0.
file://c:/proxy.pac and c:\proxy.pac both not working.
Unchecked "Include all sites that bypass the proxy server".
Disabled the Ad filter software Proxomitron and tried.
I am using a local Dns Server (AnalogX's "FastCache").
Thanks in advance for the help and replies.

- Windows XP Network >> Group PolicyOkay, so I get the error:
Workgroup is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this
network resource....
The list of servers for this workgroup is currently not available.
So I look up the info at:
http://winhlp.com/wxnet.htm
Bullet #1 of "Workgroup is not accessible" mentions checking in the
"File and Printer Sharing exemption" in the firewall settings. So I
make sure that there is a check mark in the above exemption, however
under the column "Group Policy" there is a "No." There is a note at the
top of the window saying:
Windows Firewall is turned off. Your network administrator is using
Group Policy to control these settings.
There doesn't appear to be any way to effect the Group Policy. Am I
correct in assuming that since the "Group Policy" says "No" to the File
and Printer Sharing exemption, the workgroup access won't work.
Any suggestions?
