Windows XP Network >> Can't Dial Up - Help PLEASE Hi all, One of my friends is having trouble creating a dial up connection on
his winxpPro machine. I've had a look with my limited experience, with no
luck, so I thought I'd ask here.

It's a Packard Bell Celeron 400Mhz machine with a US Robotics modem and a
NIC card. The machine was mine, on which I used a dial up connection before
i got broadband. He lives in an area without any broadband connections, so
wants to use a dial up connection.
He tried a BT Openworld CD to install the connection. All it came up with
was a corrupt file. Knackered CD I think, so I try to see if I can set up a
manual connection. The only way that it will let me set up a manual
connection is via broadband ( The other two options are greyed out) Is
there any way to fix this and create a connection via the dial up modem??
We know that the phone line is OK, so I'm thinking that the problem must
lie between the PC, NIC, and the modem.

ANY help would be greatfully received

This is a common problem:

You Cannot Create a Network Connection After You Restore Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329441

The usual fix is to re-install your current service pack ( SP1 or SP2 ).

This comes up occasionally too:

Dial-up Modem or PPPoE Option in New Connection Wizard Is Unavailable
