Windows XP >> Language difference when upgrading from 98 to XP Hi guys,

In a local store there is a good offer on XP Home upgrade version. It
says on the box that it can upgrade 98 to XP. My question is can I
upgrade my english version of 98 to a danish version of XP?

Another question - does the XP upgrade correspond to the regular version
of XP or does it correspond to an OEM version?

Thanks in advance!

BR,
René

Windows XP >> Language difference when upgrading from 98 to XP No, you cannot upgrade to XP if languages of both systems are *not* the =
same. You must perform a clean install of XP.

Not necessarily. There are XP Upgrade versions sold and supported by =
Microsoft (retail versions, not OEM).

Whether you install the full, retail version of XP or the OEM version,
you wind up with the same thing. The differences are licensing,
support, and the fact that the full version will upgrade an existing
system, but the OEM version will not.

The Upgrade version will upgrade an existing system, but will not
install on a blank disk, unless you can show it an installation CD for
a qualifying product. Support comes from MS, as with the full retail
product (but not the OEM product).

OK, I may have been a bit unclear in my question, what I mean is will
there be any problems in the licensing due to the difference (I cannot
see that there should be, but I am no expert on the area)?

I plan to do a clean install on a clean hard drive (new PC). I have read
somewhere that this is duable with an upgrade version, as long as I have
the original disc of the old version (I have read that I should pop the
old disc in when the PC asks for it). Anyway, what I fear is that the
installation will stop and tell me that the old windows 98 is not an
acceptable version for the upgrade version of XP Home due to the
language difference. I hope someone knows the answer to this before I
run out and buy the XP home upgrade version :-)

Thanks in advance!

René

Licence-wise there is no problem. What you are describing is legitimate.

When doing the actual installation of Windows XP, use any old
Windows95/98/Me/NT4 CD-ROM as verification media. If one Win95/98/Me/NT4
CD-ROM is scratched and doesn't work, then use another and another until you
find one that works - it doesn't matter. Does the language of the CD-ROM
matter? I don't know, probably not, but just find one that goes through and
forget about it.
