- Windows XP Support >> Boot upMy friends PC will only boot after several attempts. It has been used without
effective antivirus,Spyware protection. I have attempted to remove most
spyware & viruses with my software. The PC boots for a few seconds then hangs
and the monitor goes into standby mode. How do I know whether this is a
hardware problem or whether the boot has become corrupted? If necessary, can I
reinstal WinXP from the disk? If so,how,if no prompts appear on the screen to
start with? Any guidance much appreciated.

- Windows XP Support >> Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library Runtime ErrorI purchased and installed Microsoft Works approximately 2 months ago in my
home computer. I used Microsoft Word a few times as I rarely need it. When
I tried to create a .doc today, I received the following runtime error
message 3 times and I lost the document each time. I was creating a simple
document with no graphics, attachments, etc:
The caption is: "Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library"
The body of the error message states:
"Runtime Error!
Program C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."
What is wrong with the program and how can I fix it?
Denise
What can I do to stop this?

- Windows XP Setup >> Change of languageGood afternoon... I wonder, does anyone know if it is possible to change the language in which Win XP presents itself?
I have to do some translations of help and instructions for software in another language and it would be so useful to be able to switch Windows between the two so that I could be sure to get the terms consistent.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

- Windows XP >> Default Window SizeDear Group, i was asked by a pal of mine how to change the default window
size on a XP box and not knowing the answer i came to you!
For example, if he starts Nero player and selects "Open playlist" a small
window opens. I tried to enlarge the window then did "Tools/Folder
Options/Apply to all folders" but after a re-boot the window reverts to its
default small size.
Is there any way to alter this behaviour please?
many thanks

Windows XP Network >> Total Networking Info Gone MISSING!
My PC is about 5 years old now but I have kept it in fairly good shape. I had
regular Windows updates and both an antivirus and spyware protection. In
October my monitor died and I was unable to find a new one until last week. I
connected a new monitor and updated my antivirus and spyware and all worked
fine until I recieved a Windows update which restarted my PC over-night.
During the next day my PC froze completely (mouse pointer included) and after
rebooting all listings of my network connections were erased.
Since then I have been unable to reconnect to the internet as my PC can no
longer find any network cards. I have manually removed and replaced my
wireless card and also physically connected to my router via ethernet cable.
My PC does not recognize any of this and the device manager does not have any
listing of my wireless network card at all. I have utilized both System
Restore and a drive reformat with no success. My wireless card is a Buffalo
Air Station and is less than a year old. I have had no other problems with it
before. If I attempt to install the card driver from the CD I must manually
find the specific file on the disk and then I recieve an error message that
the device cannot be started [code 10]. Add Hardwear cannot detect the card,
even if I shut down and remove or replace it. It is as if my entire PC forgot
everything about networking.
Some of the steps I have tried are from self-help tips online, this seemed
like it would help http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/825826 (I
only completed up to step 10 as more than just the dial-up connection is
missing). Nearly everything I have tried relies on the card being detected by
the system, which it suddenly refuses to do now. I can see no physical damage
to the card itself or the area it connects to the rest of the board. Should I
continue with the steps in the guide? How can I reconnect my wireless card so
it cna be detected?

Don't know if you've tried this...
Open the device manager, then right-click on the computer icon at the
top of the list and select "Scan for Hardware Changes"
If that doesn't work, try plugging your wireless card into another
computer to see if that computer recognizes the card. If it doesn't,
then you might have a bad card.

Hi
You problem is pre networking.
I.e. if the Wireless card's drivers are Not installed there is No roll for
networking to even start.
Make sure that you do not have any residual Ghost,
http://www.ezlan.net/faq.html#ghost
Log to Buffalo's support download the latest File that fits your OS and try
again.

As for Networking per-se, http://www.ezlan.net/wireless.html

- Windows XP >> administrator accountHi. I have a question. We had a computer at work set up on a network. the
name of the computer was Cris2k although everybody used it as a guest I
believe.
When you logged on, you logged on to the company server: bushc
Now that computer was given to one of our properties and Cris logged on as
himself, created a new user Admin and then removed something from the network
I think because the new user couldn't log on as it was saying that it wasn't
logged on to the bushc server.
he can log in but he doesn't have the administrator privileges and if he
tries to install something, it says that he can't for that reason. we tried
every password and any thing that we could think of, but with no success.
He cannot set up that computer to the new network either.
if you understand what I said and you have any ideas on how to figure this
out, can you please give me a hand????
I really appreciate your help.
thank you very much for your help!

- Windows XP Network >> Disconnecting client PC's from the InternetI have a small home network (not wireless). 2 client pc's connected through a
hub to the main host PC onto the internet via a cable modem (broadband).
Everything has worked fine for over a year. One morning I noticed the client
PC was not connected to the internet. In summary - the 2 client PC's have
started to lose connection. All cables/cards are OK. In fact I have a shared
drive on the host - which can still be accessed. On rebooting the host -
connection is restored. However after exactly 1 hour the clients lose
connection again. I have made no changes to anything and wonder how I stop
the host PC disconnecting the clients from the Internet after 1 hour. Any
help much appreciated

- Windows XP >> Large file in Word has lost ALL its text!!I have been working with a file in Word 2000 for over 4
months, each time I access it I am updating it until it
now has/had approximately 84 pages. (Of course, I have
not been saving it to a spare disk...to easy.)
I opened the file yesterday and it is empty!!! I teach
Word so I am very familiar with what to do and what not
to do as far as saving the file as I go. I would not have
selected it all and pressed any key to delete all the
text. Is there a way to restore the file as it was before
it went blank using Windows XP? Assuming the area where
the file exists has not been overwriten. Any suggestions?
I have looked at the restore the entire disk from a
certain date, but I am looking for just restoring ONE
file, not the entire disk. Thanks in advance for your
help.

- Windows XP >> 100% CPU Usage in XP SP2Hi,
I have an IBM R50p I recently bought. SP2 was installed, as I see it in my
add/remove section in the control panel. Lately I've been suffering 100% CPU
usage to no let down.
When I google it, there are companies that pop up that hint maybe the
registry needs to be cleaned. To be sure when I run the trial hundreds of
errors pop up.
Is this the solution? Or what's the way to troubleshoot this nuisance?

- Windows XP Hardware >> Want my own custom configuration utilityI have a need that is distinct from ghosting a drive. I configure about a
dozen new systems each year, and I have a specific set of utilities and
tweaks that I want to put in place. For instance:
- Batch file that assigns drive letters to folders (which needs to be added
to
Current Version / Run)
- Keyboard remapping utility
- Preferred Explorer shell
- Task Bar and Start Menu tweaks
- Suite of about two dozen small programs and utilities
These involve files placed in specific locations, DLLs added to the Windows
folder, and numerous additions made to the Registry. I would like to
automate all of this and save many tens of hours. It can't be a ghost image,
as I will be adding this collection of attributes to widely disparate
systems. I want this to be more like a patch.
What should I be looking for? Is there software to automate this? Do I need
to have a script written? What is the best way to approach this? Thanks...
