- Windows XP Hardware >> 1394 w/Core 2 Duo - 945PM Express chipset (Dell Laptop)Hi Everyone...
I'm supporting a proprietary software program and 1394 audio device,
but that is irrelevant to my question:
I am testing a brand new Dell Latitude D820 laptop which uses the 945PM
Express Chipset and the Core 2 Duo (T7200) 2GHz CPU. It has an
integrated 1394 controller and I'm not sure if it is part of the
motherboard chipset, CPU or some 3-rd party controller... When I click
on the "OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller" in Device Mangler,
the hardware ID shows:
PCI/VEN_1217&DEV00F7&SUBSYS_01CC1028&REV_02
As far as I can tell, VID 1217 belongs to O2Micro.
The Problem:
This piece of audio hardware can't successfully talk to the software
over the built-in 1394 port on the Dell laptop. I have tried the
MicroInnovations 1394 Cardbus adapter, and it works fine with it on the
same laptop. I am not a software programmer, so I can't provide any
details there, but we do know that it "appears" to be a communication
thing, where it might be dropping data.
We have also observed similar communication issues on a Mac Book Pro
(running XP) which is also based on the Core 2 Duo system, so we
thought this might be related to whatever the Core 2 Duo systems are
doing.
Has anyone had ANY issues so far related to the Core 2 Duo's or the 945
Express chipsets?
I am already working on having the software/firmware people look at
this, but so far, I am the first one to suspect this Core 2 Duo system
for this problem.
Again, the software/hardware works the same machines with an add-on
1394 controller.
I don't expect any solutions to this just yet, but if anybody who reads
this could tell me if they have heard about or seen any strange
FireWire issues with these types of systems, that would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Jonas

- Windows XP Security >> ICMP Ping constantly ticked--risk or not?Hello,
I have Xp Home, SP2, and have tried security check with Gibson's
Research Website, which shows that I fail on the "ping" check, but am
secure for all other checks. (grc.com)
When I do to Windows firewall, I notice that ICMP tab has "allow ping"
checked, and I cannot un check this. I have a computer on a wireless
network downstairs, which is (hopefully secure) on a password enabled
network.
Is this why I cannot uncheck the IMCP ping box? Is it a risk please? I
don't recall having this problem before?
Thanks for any advice.

- Windows XP Network >> Rejoining the domainI have several computers running off a Microsoft Exchange 2003 server.
One of the computers was connected to the domain incorrectly and now it
crashes and crashes the server due to security problems. The server thinks
the computer is trying to illegally log onto the server so it shuts down that
computer and then the server crashes.
When I unhook the computer from the server, all is fine. In other words, I
have isolated the problem.
I have heard that I cannot rename this computer and correctly rejoin it to
the domain unless I format the hard drive on the affected computer and
reinstall everything. Not a pleasant option.
I know NOTHING about networks so if I have not given you enough information,

- Windows XP >> Microsoft: ¿cazador cazado?
nuestros lectores.

- Windows XP Support >> iexplorer.exe shows in task manager process list but no browser opHi,
I have just recently run into this problem and have now switched to Mozilla
because of it! It doesn't matter how many times I've closed IE 6 it just
shows up in the task manager process list as many times as I have opened and
closed my browser.(Needless to say its slowing down my PC).
I have the latest anti virus, router, Spydoctor, Ad Aware, CC Cleaner,
Internet Washer, HijackThis and have run countless online
virus/trojan/spy/malware scans and they all come up clean. I do have all the
latestest updates so why is this suddenly happening?
Oddly enough, this does not happen on my Laptop running Winsxp Pro and all
of the exact same software mentioned above. On my laptop when I exit IE 6 it
doesn't appear anywhere in the Task Manager.
Would uninstalling IE and reinstalling help?
Thanks in Advance

- Windows XP >> Sound ProblemHi:
I have a friend who has a Dell desktop and he cannot play .wav files for
some reason. Here is the website that has a .wav file that he cannot play:
http://www.minibite.com/oldies/boogiewoogie.htm. I am assuming the sound
file applicable this website is a .wav file. When you click on this website
it automatically plays sound without launching Windows Media Player. All
.mp3 files and also individual selected .wav files played launch Windows
Media Player when they are played. I really do not know why when you click
on this website and the song is played that it does not launch Media Player.
In addition, I had him test other .wav files, none of which could he get
sound. He has Windows Media Player and it is default for all File Types. I
have checked this and all files are checked, including .wav files. He can
get sound on all other sound files except .wav files. Also I checked IE
Tools>Internet Options>Advanced> and under Multimedia he as it checked to
"play sound in web pages".
I spent about an hour with him last night checking and rechecking his
settings, but still no sound from .wav files. If anyone has any suggestions
about what his problem might be, I would be most appreciative if you would
share them with me.
Thanks

WindowsXP doesn't have a File->Open option, but this might help ...
Start -> Help and Support -> Search for 'clear'
or
Download a program like ccleaner and choose the appropriate options

Windows XP >> Clear history in 'open file' dialog
Hi,
I am not sure if I was explaining good. When I open mpg or avi files in

Is it possible in windows xp?

That depends on the application. In case of the Media Player, you'll
find that option under Tools > Options.
> Is it possible in windows xp?
This has nothing to do with Windows XP since applications keep their
own MRU lists.

Hehehehe I know a lot of males that are worried about that list of
video clips appearing when someone else uses Windows Media Player.
So much so, that Microsoft released a special little program called
cleanmru.exe specifically for that task - it was just a single file,
no installation required, and you just ran the file every so often and
that's all it did - clean the list of most recently used files out of
WMP.
And, as luck would have it, I've still got a copy..
You can stop that list from being created by just double clicking in
file names to open them, instead of opening them from within WMP.
There's also some info about a cleanmru.reg file which empties the
registry (where mru details are stored) of WMP mru filenames.
Microsoft website -> search "cleanmru"
