- Windows XP Support >> Help with STOP Error: 0x0000008EXP SP2 on a Toshiba Tablet. Nothing added in 4+ yrs (just all software
updates) but have increasing blue screen issue.
After quite a bit of researching, I have gone through all the possible - and
known - causes of this stop error, which now occurs within 8-10 minutes of
every bootup unless in safe mode. I have determined that the memory address
where the errors always occur is: 0x805A1F33. Now how do I find out what
driver is located at that address so I can fix the problem?
Thank you for your assistance!

I bought a new PC that comes with FreeDos only.

- Windows XP Hardware >> How do I know which disk drive it is based on Windows' event logs?Example: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk3\D during a
paging operation.
Is this labelling based on the order in My Computer's Manage -> Disk
Management? Because I don't see a Disk 3. So I am confused on how
Windows label disk drives. I do have three physical HDDs with seven
total drives/partitions (C: to I:) + two CD/DVD drives (M: and N:).
Thank you in advance. :)

do?
HKEY_CURRENT_USER,/Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg

My computer's registry has about a hundred such entries with data referring
to files which no longer exist. These files are said to be in various
locations like "C:\ ... \My Documents", where they once were, but have since
been moved or deleted.
Can registry entries of the above kind be safely deleted? ... Should they
be deleted?

- Windows XP Support >> Internet Explorer can't find any pages?I've just installed XP and SP2 and all the updates. I have a Broadband
connection and downloaded the latest drivers. I can connect to my ISP and
log on to my home page but only once when I open IE but it can't find any
pages nor will it open the search page after the initial page. I've emptied
the cache and refresh doesn't work. My ISP has checked all my settings and
they are OK. The firewall did ask me about a few files ootuqq.exe,
pingppac.exe and winmgr but it still wont find pages whether or not I block
these. Funny thing is if I ping from the command screen I get replies so it
seems I am connected to my ISP server OK. Anyone any ideas or should I stick
with W2K Pro.? I'm sending this on a different computer if anyone wonders
how I can post messages and yet IE doesn't work.
Thanks

- Windows XP >> Windows Installer is not workingI'm trying to upgrade to Microsoft Office XP, and when I

- Windows XP Network >> Can't access shared foldersHi there,
I've had an ongoing problem with sharing files on my laptop for some time
now.
Essentially what happens is when I connect my laptop to a network but
computer is can be seen on the network workgroup but when I click on it (on
someone else's computer) I get asked for an ID and PASSWORD.
This is not normal. When I click on other people's computers I get immediate
access to their shared resources. No one, however, can access my shared
resources.
Even if I type in my username and password it doesn't accept that when
trying to access my shared resources from another computer.
I am not sure what I can change or remove in order to permit others to
access my computer on a LAN.
FYI - I am proficient and experienced on windows and networking etc. Just
can't seem to figure this one issue out though.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jonathan

Windows XP >> Runtime Error!
When I try to update my virus protection (McAfee Virus
Scan On-line) I receive a message window
titled 'Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library', and the
message states: Runtime Error! C:/...../iexplore.exe

I tried clearing temp internet files and cookies, but
that didn't help. Anyone have any other suggestions?

- Windows XP Network >> Adding Laptop to 2 comp ICSNot sure this makes sense, but ----
I have 2 comps on a crossover cable LAN, sharing a printer. Is there a way
I can connect the laptop (occasionally) so it simply connects to an already

Maybe the question is can you have a 3 machine ICS?

- Windows XP Hardware >> Success recovering corrupted HD hard drive (NTFS)FWIW I managed to destroy the file structure on an NTFS 300GB drive -
perhaps by accidentally unplugging the USB cable to the external box.
The drive was nearly full, including a video project that was in work.
I bought FinalDataPlus 2.0 after messing with the demo. In its most
aggressive mode it took something like 24 hours to scan the disk, and
while it reported finding a bunch of files and "recovered" some of
them, only the smallest ended up being valid files. I then started a
different scan mode and it went faster and found more files (including
the important many-GB files I needed) but again the recovered files
were corrupt.
My second try was Restorer2000. The free demo scanned the drive in an
hour or so and listed most of the files. Like FinalData the demo only
allows recovery of tiny files and thus isn't much of a test, but I
sprang for a paid copy. Nice to report, 100% success so far. All the
recovered files actually are correct.
Another plus was that after downloading the paid version (more than
just a key I could plug into the demo) and thinking I'd have to start
over with the drive scan, when I opened it, it had inhierited all the
information about the drive that the demo had extracted, so I was
ready to recover. Fingers crossed, of course. Unless I don't know
where the button is, when you exit FinalData after having scanned a
drive for 24 hours, whatever you learned disappears.

- Windows XP Support >> XP and/or Quicken problemSince Quicken people have not seen this problem nor have XP sites mention it
I am not sure where problem exists.
When I look at a split transaction in quicken 6 register the new box blinks
rapidly for 5 to 15 seconds before appearing normal. It appears to be
looking up information. All my other applications run fast and I have XPpro
with a 3.3g CPU with 1GB ram. No other apps running at this time. Could I
possibly have something set incorrect that takes cycle time away from this
program but not others?
Appreciate knowing if anyone else using Quicken 6 sees or don't see this
also.
Thanks

- Windows XP Security >> User rights on Win2K domainHow do I give users morelocal rights when they logon to a Win2K or even
WinNT4.0 domain controller? By making the users primary group Domain Admins
and log on again, they can change settings like standby, screensaver and
start programs that use the Windows Registry very intensive.
But as a normal Domain User, they can't change nothing and Word Macro's
report problems on reg-keys unable to be updated.
How to change this (perhaps using gpedit.msc, but which keys)???

- Windows XP Support >> Double Toolbars on TaskbarSome of the computers at the lab I'm employed at have a double application
toolbar on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. (If I have Internet
Explorer open then there are two instances of that single window on the
taskbar) Out of around 200 computers about 50 of them have this problem. It
would appear to be done at random too because there will be a group of
identical computers with the same 'image' of windows on each, but within a
few days some of them have it and some do not. I have done some searching
and have found that other people have the same problem, but have found no
solution to it. Most of the computers are on 'Power users' group, but the
computer I took the screenshot from is an administrator account. I can solve
the problem temporarily by using task manager to shutdown explorer.exe and
then again to enable explorer.exe. I suspect the language bar may have
something to do with it, but I'm not sure how. (If at all) I would greatly
appreciate some help in fining the source of the problem and devising a
solution. Thank you.

- Windows XP Basic >> What is "C:/RECYCLER" directory?I am running WPM10 on XP Pro. I have all latest patches installed, no
viruses present & my machine is running just fine. Having said that;
While cleaning up my WPM10 library, I found entries pointing to a
"C:/RECYCLER" directory. The directory seems to be a "system" directory & is
not of my explicit creation.
Any ideas as what or where this "C:/RECYCLER" directory came from? Can I
just delete it?
Thanks, Steve
