Windows XP Support >> How to get Admin password? Im fixing a Compaq pressario laptop for a friend. its got xp home, and
after installing sp2, it gets the blue screen, error stop c0000135 cant
find winsrv

the best I can do is use another winXP cd and get to the recovery console to
try and apply the fix from Microsoft
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=885523#kb4

on deleting registry entries for the sp2, so it can boot.

Apparently while searching for a note about what the password might be, I
find it was sold at comp usa, and they bought a service plan, unconditional.

But guess what? they dont want to offer support, saying I needed to call
Microsoft to ask them what the Administrator password is.

It was setup by comp usa, who apparently setup the admin password. But they
say we would not know what it is and all the data will be destroyed on the
disk because the only way now is to wipe the disk and install everything
again. But I dont have any windowsXP disks, compusa kept them.

Well who cares, you have to buy xp, office, etc, not our problem. Besides,
its too complicated to work thru the registry, thats only for qualified
people, we cant help you, thats like way advanced or something.

Is there any solution?
tia

Windows XP Support >> How to get Admin password? Thanks, thats one of the first things I tried. But Ill try it again, it
only gives 3 chances then says reboot

Its like it teases me. Ive tried some passwords that I realized wouldnt be
very secure, and others that might be it. Ive learned a lot from this, a
person like me trying to figure out a password will try lots of obvious
things.

Im going to make my passwords much stronger. But this bites, compUSA has
the password, or did 2 years ago,

okay its asking for the pwd now, first Ill try blank: no
2. Ill try windows no
3. Ill try password no

then I tried them in upper case, and tried ADMINISTRATOR

there is no emoticon for how I feel about this.

Try This!!!

From "http://www.theeldergeek.com"
Recovery Console Password-
On many XP installations you can't start the Recovery Console because it
won't recognize your password. This registry edit causes the Recovery Console
not to ask for a password. This works for both XP Home and XP Professional.
Start | Run | Regedit
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole
Set the DWORD SecurityLevel value to 1
Exit Registry and Reboot

Windows XP Support >> How to get Admin password? But I cant get to the registry, thats the goal here. If I could get to the
registry, Id undo the sp2 install and it would be happy

I installed another xp, so now I can get into the disk. I dont know the
name of the registry file itself

So in other words, I can login to my new xp pro. I can find files with
explore. if I run Regedit, it operates on my xp pro install. So I want to
find the registry for the xp home install, and edit the values

Is the name of the registry a secret? if so, then Ill have to buy a brand
new windows cd. if not? then I want to find that registry

I enabled view all files even system and hidden, did a search on *.reg and
found spyware files.
