- Windows XP >> Authority IssueI've got two XP Home computers on a home network. They're connected to each
other and the internet using an SMC broadband router. Neither computer can
view the My Documents folder on the other computer. Each computer can get
anywhere on the other computer, but access is denied to the My Documents
folder. I've made sure sharing is turn on for these folders. Each computer
is set up with the same two users, both users are administrators. ICF is
turned off on both machines. Can anyone help with this one? Thanx in
advance.

- Windows XP Hardware >> Need to partition preloaded hard driveJust bought new computer with preloaded software. I want to partition drive and reinstall software using Recovery CD since that's all I have to work with. XP would only allow me to create 1 partition and limited it's size to 7 Gb. Is there any way I can partition into multiple drives the sizes I want, with or without reformatting and if I do reformat can I use the recovery CD to reload the software onto a smaller C: drive? Any suggestions to accomplish this would be appreciated.

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> monitor startup apps?Is there anyway to actually monitor startup applications in windows xp pro
or with a 3rd party application? I know I can kill one thing at a time in
the registry or via msconfig and keep restarting, but I would like to know
if there is something that specifically shows "x application started at x
time and completed loading at x time [and took x time to load]".
The reason being, I have a new IBM T43 notebook that I am testing for our
company (we're thinking of switching from Dell D600's to these) and this
system logs in, shows the hard drive active protection icon in the system
tray as loaded then takes a solid minute before anything else happens and
once it does it loads almost all of the system tray icons at the exact same
time, then the remainder at the same time about 30 seconds later. It
basically starts up fast, then once logged in takes a hell of a long time
before I can actually do anything on the system.
Any and all recommendations are appreciated.
Thanks!

Windows XP >> Very very annoying taskbar in Windows XP....
Hi,
I have a really VERY VERY annoying problem with Windows XP:
In the properties of the taskbar I have set the the "Auto-hide the
taskbar"
and "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows".
I set these properties so that the taskbar pop-ups when I move the
mouse pointer to an edge of the monitor.
A REMARK:
---------
I like to work with the keyboard only, because I'm much quicker with
it and I use the mouse as less as possible.
The Problem:
------------
At the beginning I had a lot of very annoying "baloon" Windows XP
messages and the taskbar ALWAYS pops-up, so the browser or application
application I used
lost the focus and I had to click with the mouse the browser or the
application window to gain the focus again; so I was able to work
again with the keyboard only.
So I found in internet a couple of hints: I added to my registry the
following keys:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"FolderContentsInfoTip"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\tips]
"Show"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"StartButtonBalloonTip"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"ShowInfoTip"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSMBalloonTip"=dword:00000000
So, I didn't get any "baloon" message anymore. These keys "kills" the
Windows XP "baloon" messages from the taskbar.
HOWEVER:
it happens very often that the taskbar pops-up without any message. It
doesn't
display any "baloon" message, but it's still very annoying, because I
loose
the focus of the browser or application..... you read it already
before.
NOW THE QUESTION (PLEASE HELP ME WITH SOME IDEAS ^_^ ):
*********************************************************
What can I do to suppress the annoying pop-up of the taskbar?
I don't want neither to "Lock the taskbar" nor to "Keep the taskbar
UNDER
other windows".
If I need the taskbar, I simply want to move the mouse on an edge of
the monitor so that it pops-up. I don't want that the taskbar pop-up
automatically.
So, if you didn't die after this long monologue (LOL LOL) I would
appreciate some hints.
Thank you very much
John

Windows XP >> Very very annoying taskbar in Windows XP....
Try moving the taskbar to the left side of the monitor, keep
the auto hide on/always on top on. Maybe having the taskbar
on the side will keep scrolling and such from showing the
taskbar.
I have my taskbar on the left, but do not use the auto-hide,
I find that the taskbar works better for me, taking about 1
inch off the side of a 17 inch display, but keeping the full
height available. I do have the MS OFFICE toolbar at the
bottom set to auto-hide/on top. I can close that if it is a
problem doing some work such as photo-editing when I need to
have the cursor at the bottom of the screen.

Hi Jim,
I have the taskbar on the left like you too. However, I don't want to uncheck
the option "auto-hide the taskbar"; I just want the taskbar disappear, so I
can get the maximum of my manitor.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

I don't see this behavior. Messages on the task bar don't steal focus.
Have you tired Tweak UI - General - Focus - Prevent applications from

I have tried several different cables inclusing a 'crossover' cable

I took it to them & they were unable to get the laptop to netwrk with

Is this correct or can I network using XP Home.
I have tried all the stuff on Microsofts XP Networking page, but to be
