Desktop Settings change at reboot

Windows XP Setup >> Desktop Settings change at reboot I've spent way too much time trying to figure this one out. No success with
seven Dell technicians, so maybe somebody here in the community has an idea.

My preference is to set my desktop settings thusly:

Themes: Windows Classic
Desktop: None
Screen Saver: None
Appearance: Windows Classic Style; Windows Standard (color scheme)

I apply these and every thing looks as I want...until I reboot the system.
When the system reloads, I've been able to pin down that the one thing that
changes is the "Windows and Buttons" drop down on the Appearance tab, which
now reads Windows XP Style. And it offers the default (blue) color scheme.

I've done some non-destructive testing in the system registry, but truly
don't know where to go from here. As I said above, 4.5 hours on the phone
with DellTechs bought me little more than cauliflower ear. Anybody have any
thoughts on how to resolve this? I'm truly appreciative of your support.

Windows XP Setup >> Desktop Settings change at reboot Thanks. I tried it, but to no avail. Several reboots and reset of
properties would not stick.

Then I'm sorry, but I don't know.
