- Windows XP Setup >> Deploy Office 2003 SP2 by GPOI have several suites with Office 2003 SP1 and I would like to install SP2
using group policy - is there an MSI package available just for Office SP2?
I have a slipstreamed copy of Office 2003 SP2 but just want the service pack
to be applied seperately and automatically.
I would rather use GPOs than WSUS so I can perform the upgrade in stages.

- Windows XP Support >> Cant resurrect systemReturned from holiday to find I can't boot my XP system. Examination with
another OS booted from CD shows that everything in the Windows directory has
disappeared!
When I try to start over with my original XP disk, the system gets as far as
"Loading Windows", with a brief flash of the Windows graphics screen, then
crashes with a blue screen "Windows has closed down to save your computer
from destruction", or words to that effect.
My Partition Magic floppies load, then hang with the hourglass centre stage.
I guess I need to reformat the hard disk, but how?

- Windows XP Network >> Will http://___ browse PCs on LAN?Am using WinXP-pro PCs and Linksys router. The router assigned
192.xxx.xx.200 to this PC
If I'm on a PC within the LAN, shouldn't I be able to open IE6, key in
192.xxx.xx.200, and see what's on this PC?
What happens is...it brings up a username/password screen...
Username. Leaving it blank doesn't work, and if I enter something (like
joe) in the username box, it adds the something to the ip address and
displas that (like... the 192.xxx.xx.200/joe). And still doesn't work.
Password. Entering the router password doesn't work, and I don't know what
other password would exist.
Seems like before I got this VPN router I could simply enter the local IP
address and up came the yellow folders and files.
Wondered what's going on here, thanks

- Windows XP Support >> COM1 busy and I need it freeI had a small glitch in my WinXP system so I did a reinstall (not a full
reformat). All the programs were saved, but they needed tweeked.
Before I reinstalled WinXP I had my handheld GPS hooked up to my computer so
they can upload to one another thru my COM1 port. Now Im trying to upload
data to my GPS and it is saying, "Since this is the first time you uploaded
to your GPS we will have to find it. Please hook it up and turn it on." I
did. It ran a search and said, "COM1 is busy." But its not. I mean, its
busy with the GPS unit but thats it.
How do I check what my computer thinks its busy with using COM1 and shut it
down?
It kinda sounds like a software problem, but I totally uninstalled and
reinstalled the GPS software and it works perfectly.
Thanks again for the help.

- Windows XP >> Youre Not On Mute, You KnowI am a multitasker. That is why I love the mute button when on a
conference call in my home. It allows me to get a few small tasks
done, let my dog in and out of the house and keep a running commentary
going with the host, with no one the wiser.
I say things like;
"I agree."
"I'm with you."
"You're right."
Sometimes I say things like:
"That can't be right."
"Well, I wouldn't put it that way."
"I don't agree with you."
Such was the case the other night, while on a conference call.
However, I started to notice something different about this call. As
always, I said a few words when I got on and immediately put myself on
mute. Then it seemed as if there were technical difficulties. The host
sounded as if he was speaking in a tunnel. I thought that strange but
things happen. The call became stranger. In my running commentary, to
myself, I would ask questions that it seemed the host anticipated. I
thought, " Wow. This guy is really great. He anticipates any question
someone could ask."
Finally, in trying to drive home his point, he made an analogy
involving a first car. He said, "Imagine your first car. It's a stick
shift with a clutch and you drive it to the top of a hill and then
what happens?"
I answered, on mute, "Well, obviously, you start to slide back down
the hill."
The host laughed," You could do that but no, you would floor the gas."
Then I knew. The most horrible sensation washed over me.
"I am not on mute, am I?"
"No, you are not on mute."
This whole time, on the conference call, as my unfiltered thoughts are
spouting out of my mouth, people from all across the nation are
listening to

Windows XP Setup >> ftp site?
Filezilla Server is one of the best Windows daemons, and is quite easy to
setup. Do beware of security issues with any Internet-visible service, though.

- Windows XP Hardware >> Data restoration from "invisible" diskAfter a system crash, one of my hard disks became "invisible". BIOS
recognizes it, WinXP System info reports it, but Storage...Disk Management
reports it as an unknown filesystem.
Is there a SW available that would allow me to restore the data on the
disk? I tried "Norton System Works" and "PC Inspector Smart Recovery", but
these programs can only deal with visible drives.
Thanks

- Windows XP Support >> Writing to CDI have just upgraded my XP to SP2. When I copy files to disk using the CD
writing wizard, it works fine, the files are copied correctly and I can
access them on the CD. However, after writing the files and ejecting the CD,
when I insert any CD, blank or not, the eject button becomes unusable.
Clicking on the icon and selecting eject does not work either. I have to
re-boot to get the button working again.

Windows Firewall tool in Control Panel to turn off the Windows
Firewall or to configure Windows Firewall settings on the Windows XP
SP2 on my computer. Some options are appear dimmed, and I get this

What is this "group policy" thing? I never heard of this Windows XP
option before. My machine is a single home PC on a high-speed

How do I fix my PC so that this "group policy" is no longer in

totally new to me, so can someone explain it to me in simple terms?

- Windows XP Setup >> Double boot problemEvidently when I set up auto-update it downloaded a competing version of
Windows XP x64. Both versions try to start up, so when I log-in under
administrator, it asks me if I want to 'activate my Windows product'. If I
say no, it logs me out. If I say yes, it starts up, gives me a screen saying
that Windows is already running, and logs me out too. Basically, I can't get
into my computer.
I've tried reinstalling windows, but that so far hasn't done anything except
get me to reformat my hard drive, losing everything I've stored there for the
past 4 years.
Previous to this, I had to shut down my computer twice to get it to stay
down. First time it would reboot after 3 minutes, and the second time it
would actually shut down. I have no idea if these two things are connected.
If it matters, I have an ASRock motherboard, a 2 GHz Athlon processor, and 2
hard-drives from different manufacturers.
