Windows XP Security >> users canmnot install software from CD-ROM Hi,

I assume that your workstation is either Win2k Pro or Win
XP Pro?

I also experienced this problem before when deploying a
few Win XP workstations. My colleague who is a Domain
User but who has Local Administrator rights (his PC not
affected by GPO), also is not able to install programs
that modify registries if the program uses Regedit.

You have 2 options here:

1) Access GP Management Console, enable Regedit for all
your users in your GPO.

2) Remotely access GP of your users' PC. Then modify
their GPO to allow Regedit. Good for a few PCs that have
these special requirements.

Either of the above will allow your user to install
programs which will use Regedit. See which one fits your
bill. But bear in mind Security flaws by enabling Regedit.

Regards.
