- Windows XP Setup >> Installed xp sp2 and now get kicked off internetI installed xp sp2 from a disk supplied by Microsoft and now when I get on
the internet and start surfing I will get thrown off and straight back to my
desktop. I cannot download nor sign onto many sites without the same thing
happening. Is there a way to remedy this or do I have to uninstall xp2.

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> editing a movieI'm new to this. Somehow I lost the project I was working on. I was able to
retrieve most of it but ONLY IN SAVED THE MOVIE VERSION. Now, my timeline
looks totally different in that several clips are in one frame. When I try
to add a collection, etc., it adds at the end of the movie. I, obviously,
was not finished and now I need to know if I have to start completely over!
Please advise!
Thanks a million.

- Windows XP Update >> Need MSWorks 5 SuiteRunning an old IBM Aptiva ('99) and Windows 98 SE and have lost or loaned my
MSWorks 5 Suite (Works 5, Word 97, Picture It Express, etc.) and NEED a new
CD(2, maybe?) ASAP. (Computer crashed and I had to format the HD and start
ALL over.) A friend tried his MSWorks 6 here on this computer and his "Word"
and I don't seem to have enough horsepower to run it. Further, my MSWorks 5
and Word 97 files (many, Many ... some of which are irreplaceable and all
valuable to me) will not open on his system so please don't try to walk me
thru all the "fixes" to get them to open at his house. No need ... I want my
files here on my computer. Does ANYone have an old copy of this (MSWorks 5
Suite) that they could send (or sell) me??? I'm sure MR. Gates wouldn't mind
as he's probably up to MSWorks 10 by now. ;-) Hurry and HELP ??? Contact
direct at Nelriggin@aol.com would be quicker and easier as I'm not a
"regular" in these pages. Thanx in advance.

- Windows XP Hardware >> New Mobo and ProcessorOS Windows XP Home SP1 (and all updates)
I have just installed a new PC Chips Motherboard DDR 266
and an AMD Athlon XP 2400 in my computer. On rebooting
the machine the system stalled at stalled. I restarted
and went to safe mode. System stalled at MUP.SYS but I
assume that it may have been the next setting that caused
the problem.
I tried a repair install from the booting from the
Windows XP CD. It went through the process until it came
to the "windows is not starting........." (or restarting
can not remember) screen and then the system reboots.
This goes on continually until I turn the power off.
If i try to intervene by pressing F8 while booting and go
to safe mode it gets as far as the safe mode screen with
safe mode written at the top and the bottom, then it
reboots the system.
Please help. I have 4 user accounts and seperate PST
files etc set up in outlook and DO NOT want to do a fresh
install.
Please help. Any other information you require just ask.

- Windows XP Setup >> Print Screen keyOkay, got a print screen key on my keyboard. How do you make that key

way to make it print, it would be nice to have that key work.

- Windows XP >> Transfer Files from Hard Drive After Computer CrashedMy computer refused to boot and, after hearing the cost to fix, I decided on
an early Xmas present and bought a new one. I would like to take the old
hard drive and recover files from it. Is there a way to do that short of
taking the new, almost unused hard drive out of the new computer and
replacing it with the old drive? Any USB tools or Firewire that will hook
directly into a hard drive and allow me to transfer files to the new computer?
Thanks

- Windows XP >> Sorting out my Mum's computer; error logging in XPMy 70 yo mother tells me that her computer "locks up" and that the "screen

Of course this never happens when I am there to fix it.
Is there an error logging system within XP that I can access to see what (if
anything) is going wrong?

- Windows XP Hardware >> Printer woes...I am so angry with Epson.I have a problem with my stylus C82
blue ink.I have to continiously head-clean to get it clear and waste all the
other ink cartridges whilst doing so.Why can't I clean the offending head
alone?At Nearly$100 for all 4 cartridges
this is no joke.I will NEVER buy another Epson.

- Windows XP >> Annoying MS Windows Setup screen on startupI was attempting to do a repair install from my XP Pro CD recently and
got a little confused when I initiated the OS install from my XP Pro CD
(thinking the "repair" option would pop up ay some point) . Well the
"repair" option didn't appear in the beginning stages of the install so
I just got a little scared and bailed on the install.
Now whenever I startup my computer I get a black and white screen that
asks me to choose between Microsoft Windows XP Professional OR
Microsoft Windows SETUP or some such thingy. I select MS XP Pro of
course and everything loads up fine but I would really like to find a
way to elminate that black and white selction screen.
I am a bit gun-shy to frig around anymore without some more expert
advice.
Thanks in advance!

- Windows XP Hardware >> Toshiba M35 Laptop Safe Mode problemI am trying to access anything that will help me repair/recover the
computer. I cannot access the BIOS to change the boot sequence so as to get
to the DVD/CD drive and it immediately goes to the boot menu in which all
options lead to the BSOD with a bad_pool_caller error message that stays on
the screen momentarily and immediately restartst the computer. There is no
option to stop the auto restart so it loops continually. The Toshiba
website is of no assistance. When I choose Safe Mode boot the loading
sequence hangs at agp440.sys and then goes to the BSOD. I am pretty sure it
is a corrupt video driver, but I cannot get even to the commnad prompt to
fix it. The computer holds the business information for a new startup
company and its owner did not back it up so reformat is the last option open
to me. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

- Windows XP Hardware >> usb - serial adapter isn't workingI have a Garmin GPS that I'm trying to connect to my Compaq V2310US
laptop, running XP Pro. I have purchased two different usb to serial
adapters and can't seem to make either play. Garmin's software can't
find the GPS with either. When I hooked up the first one, it gave me a
com7 connection, however garmin doesn't look at anything other than 1-4
so I moved it to com2. No play. I connected a breakout box to the
serial end and jumpered 2 and 3. I went into hyperterminal and
configured to talk with com2 and I can't see what I'm typing. I then
connected 4-5 and 6-20 in case it wanted some handshaking. No help.
The port is hot, since I see lights where they should be.
I get pretty much the same results with the other cable.
I brought Linux and minicom on a different system and the cable/breakout
box seems to work OK
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jim.

- Windows XP Network >> Can't find shared printer on networkWe have a home network, consisting of just two PC's. Computer A is the host,
and Computer B is the second PC. Both run Windows XP Home edition, SP2.
Computer B has McAfee security system.
Everything worked fine on Saturday night. Computer B was 'on the road' on
Sunday/Monday, and used an in-room internet connection in a hotel. On Sunday,
Computer A installed Symantec's Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2006. On
Monday night, when Computer B returned home and connected to the home
network, it was able to easily connect to the internet (cable modem through
Computer A), but has not been able to print on the network printer. Computer
A can print fine. We have tried the following: remove NIS using add/remove
hardware utility -- no luck. Re-install NIS - no luck. We have called
Symantec Tech Support, but have not been successful with their suggestions.
They did suggest a 'clean boot', which we have not tried.
We definitely do NOT want to mess up the internet connection for Computer B.
We'd rather have a successful internet connection for Computer B than a
successful printer connection, but it would sure be nice to get back to where
everything works again.
Computer B can successfully ping both Computer B and Computer A. Computer A
cannot ping Computer B, but can ping Computer A. Is the problem with Computer
A or Computer B? And what should we try next?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Windows XP Setup >> Error message at boot-up
Hi Stan,
Have you installed any software just prior to this
happening?
It looks like a program that loads at startup is trying
to initialize a System Tray icon, BUT is failing to do
so.
Try and Click Start, Run, then enter MSCONFIG
Go to the Startup tab and uncheck the each startup item
until you find the program causing the problem...
Kind Regards

Hmmm, truth is, I don't remember, but I'll take a look at msconfig and see
if I can figure it out!
Thanks for the response, and I hope your wife is feeling better.

- Windows XP >> Outlook Express 6 and Acronis True Image ProblemI am thinking of switching from Norton Ghost to Acronis True Image for a new
machine I am putting together.
I have downloaded the True Image Trial Version and used it this morning to
back up my C: (System Drive) and my D: (Data Drive including the Outlook
Express Store Folder.) During the back up process, I did some work with
OE.
After both backup processes completed, I went to OE and found all my
Newsgroup subscriptions had disappeared. Panic time. I restored C: from
the True Image file and the subscriptions appeared just as they were before
the backup.
I wonder if any one else here uses True Image and has experienced this sort
of thing. Could it be that working in OE while the backup process was
running caused this problem?
I have Googled this to see if there might be some restrictions on using the
system (XP Home) while the back up process runs but have find none.
Thank you for any insight on this.

- Windows XP Setup >> Cannot install ANY additional Windows ComponentsI have been trying to install Fax Services and IIS.
I am running Windows XP Professional with all Windows Updates applied
When I use the Windows Components Wizard, it does not matter which checkbox I select, the behavior is the same: it runs through the entire installation, gives me no errors, but then, the components I selected were not installed. So, for example, if I run the Wizard again, the selected checkboxes are now once again unchecked
The same thing happens in Safe mode, in Diagnostic mode....... doesn't matter
