- Windows XP Setup >> Connectivity ProblemHi Group,
I have just completed a clean re-installation of Windows XP & SP2.
All went OK, until I tried to get online to re-register XP & do some
software upgrades, including my ISP's latest logon package.
Even though the connection icon was in the system tray, and indicating that
I was already online, I could not access any web sites.
After contacting my ISP, and going through everything they had to suggest, I
still could not access any sites. They eventually told me that they could
not help any further, and that it was a Microsoft software issue.
On trying to contact the ISP's ftp server through the cmd box, to download
the ISP connection package again, I get the following message, every time.
.... "No Buffer Space is Supported".
The tech help people at my ISP are unable to help with this.
As I am unable to "get online" from home, where my regular email address is,
could any responses please be forwarded to my place of work, at ...
john.negus@defence.gov.au
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

- Windows XP Setup >> Installation Problems with XP HomeI am getting the following error messages after installing
MS XP on my new system:
The signature for Windows XP Home Edition Setup is
invalid. The error code is 80096001.
and
Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a
fatal error. The setup log files should contain more
information.
-----------------
I reinstalled the software by reformating the hard drive
and reloading. Still get the same error.
My hardware configuration is a ABits IC7 motherboard with
a Seagate 80G SATA hard drive and 2.6GHz, 800MHz FSB
processor. I enabled the SATA1 interface and loaded the
drivers at the point identified in the initial setup.
Looking for answers.

- Windows XP Support >> windows pop-up partially hidden behind the toolbarOn the toolbar you can normally point the arrow onto the icons next to
the clock (eg, "volume" or "windows messenger")
However the yellow pop up text box is partially obscured by the
taskbar! I've never seen this before.
Is there anyway to force the popup to sit on top of the toolbar so that
I can see the text clearly (it is intensely frustrating to see the top
of the yellow popup but no text, especially when I am wanting to see
how much battery time is left)
Any help gratefully received

- Windows XP Setup >> Regional and Language OptionsHi,
Why the Regional setting doesn't work. For example, the standards and
formats are "Japanese" and Location is in "Japan" (for example Time is
11:00:00). Then if I change the Location to Singapore, the time will be
10:00:00. This is OK. However after a few minutes later, the time is reverted
back to the Japanese time (11:00:00). I can do this many times, but it seems
that the time is auto restored. How to solve this problem, it's very
frustrating....

Chris

- Windows XP >> Disk Cleanup keeps locking upDoes anyone know what might be causing my disk cleanup to
lockup. I run the cleanup every so often and it's always
worked fine. Recently it has been locking up and I have
know idea why. I tried to use system restore with no
success. Any suggestions is appreciated. I'm using WinXP
on a 2.0 gHz with 256 RAM. It usually took about 15
seconds to run the cleanup, but today I left it running
for about an hour today just to see if it would unlock
itself, but nothing happened. I've also already rebooted
several times , scanned for a virus, and ran the Dr.
Thanks in advance.........

- Windows XP Setup >> Boot can't see primary partitionI am trying to enlarge my 4 gig hard drive to a 10 gig one
I used partition manager to copy the whole primary partition to the new
drive, including the OS..
I then did the same with the extended partition. Partition Manager now
shows me what it is supposed to, that there is a 3.5 gig NTFS primary
partition and the rest is a FAT32 extended.
Now the computer wont boot into XP using the new drive: It gets into an XP
boot screen (so something went right), continues for about ten seconds and
then tells me that it cant find autocheck and reboots.
Trying to repair tells me that it cant recognise the NTFS partition as such
and trying to reinstall XP OVER the present installation from the boot discs
gets me to a screen which shows the extended partition as C: and the primary
as E: Needless to say it wont let me do a repair or reinstall on either,
possibly because for some unknown reason, it seems to be seeing the C:
primary partition as an OS/2 boot partition.
Is there any way around this? I cant find a boot disc which will let me copy
all the info on the NTFS C drive to a directory on the extended partition
prior to doing a full FDisk, format and reinstall on what it thinks is the
OS/2 boot partition, prior to copying all THAT directory onto the newly
created C drive again so that I can preserve all my software without having
to reinstall it again. I don't suppose fdisk /mbr will do anything will it
(doesn't SEEM to be anything to do with this autocheck file which seems to
be stopping the present 'installation' of the OS from booting)?

- Windows XP Update >> What went wrong, how to fix?An acquaintance has asked me to post this here on his behalf, since his
PC
is nonfunctional because of the problem he's described as follows:
*********
My operating system is WindowsXP, my security suite is McAffee 2005
Version
7.
Right after installing XP Service Pack 2, I got this message:
MSKDETCT.EXE
application error "The instruction at OXO15c113c referenced memory at
OXO15c113c. The memory cannot be read."
No matter what I've tried, these errors seem to accumulate and I get
hundreds of the applications running and taking up memory within 10 to
15
minutes. System memory is a used by this error (sic) (?). I cannot do
a
proper system shutdown.
**********
He has data which he has not backed up, so reinstalling WinXP and
trying to
install SP2 again is not an attractive option. "System Restore"
doesn't
solve the problem.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

- Windows XP Update >> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892937 has the wrong switchIn the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892937 article, it indicated to use
"/quiet /norestart" with the DSUW. It would hang if those switches were
used. The correct switch should be "/q:a /r:n" like the previous
accumulative one, MS04-038. It's really frustrusting that Microsoft can't
document correctly.

Windows XP Hardware >> CD BURNER HELP!!!
goto My Computer, goto the cdrom drive and right click it
and go to properties then go to the recording tab and
click on it. There should be a check box that says Enable
cd recording on this drive.Has it got a green tick in it?
If it has or is shaded of you may have to reinstall your
cd burning program that came with the computer.

- Windows XP Setup >> Xp won't boot upI installed windows xp on a Time computer I had that had windows 98
on. I formatted the drive and removed all partitions. On boot up all I
get now is "searching for boot record on ide-0. ok", and then it
hangs.
I tried the hard drive in another pc and there was no problem. It
seems as if the bios is trying to look for something that is not
there, something by Time perhaps.
Any ideas?
Thanx.

- Windows XP Network >> XP loosing network connectivityI have a number of XP system on a 2003 AD network, it's very common that a
few of these system loose all network access I.E. drive mappings, printer

doesn't work, the event log states that the regestry for the user is opened
and can't close or write to it. I've looked high and low for an answer but
nothing and when I do find something there seems to be no resolution, I have
to constantly disable and enable the network connection sometimes once
sometimes many times.
Any suggestion would be great, thanks.

- Windows XP Hardware >> screen gone bananasI have a dell Dimension2350 2.8 ghz about 3 1/2 years old.
After a bit of flickering my screen suddenly reduced in width by about half.
ie. a quarter missing from either side which left a concave shaped(wider at
the top and bottom of the screen)with both left and right borders Black!
Everything else works as normal. Is it my graphics card?
If so, I have a Dimension3000(16 months old) at work in which i added a
matrox dual Graphics card a while back. So am I right in thinking that i
should be able to remove my original intel card fro the 3000 and put that
into the faulty 2350 with no ill effects to my 3000 mahcine?
