Windows XP Hardware >> Missing oleaut32.dll I rebooted my computer and it would not start up because oleaut32.dll is missing. I cannot do anything on my computer, all it does is show my background. Could someone please tell me how to install this file onto my computer with these circumstances? Right now I am typing this from a remote computer with the same operating system as the one with the missing file.

Windows XP1338

Windows XP Hardware >> Missing oleaut32.dll Shawn, next Startup tap F8 repeatedly. If you get a Menu select Safe Mode
with Command Prompt. Try a System Restore from there.

Windows XP Hardware >> Missing oleaut32.dll Actually, my apologies, I have never tried a system restore- I'm afraid I don't know how to do a system restore from command prompt. I pressed help but I could not find anything that said how to do one.

Windows XP Hardware >> Missing oleaut32.dll The system restore ends up showing an error message because it needs oleaut32.dll in order to be used. Is there another method?

Windows XP Hardware >> Missing oleaut32.dll Shawn, check here. You can download the files in a package. See if you can
reinstall them in Safe Mode.

Windows XP Hardware >> Missing oleaut32.dll I just ran into another problem, now I can't go into command prompt because I used my system restore CDs that came with my laptop and it's now missing \windows\system32\config\system.

Windows XP Hardware >> Missing oleaut32.dll Uh,Oh looks like your running out of options Shawn. You may have to use
your Sys Res CD's to place a working
WinXP on your laptop.

Try a boot into Safe Mode, by hitting F8 just before the "Starting
Windows" screen would appear (takes a bit of practice).
Choose LAST GOOD.

If that does nothing, use a working PC to read this first...

After your system is restored, the ERUNT utility available here may

If the problem persists, try swapping current RAM (even if it checks
good) for a single, high-quality 512Mb chip. XP reportedly is sensitive
to memory timing.
