- Windows XP Support >> Windows backup CapabilitiesDoes the program permit automated "revision" backups, i.e. only files in the
original set of folders which have changed or been added?
If not, can you recommend any inexpensive such backup software?

- Windows XP >> cascading Start menus become unattachedWhen I hit Start, All Programs and then hover over an item which has another
level of menu, all the menus often become unattached and overlap each other.
Sometimes the Taskbar comes out of AutoHide too and joins the mess.
Any ideas why and what I can do to fix this?
This is on XP Pro SP2 with all current updates.

- Windows XP Hardware >> Fed uP!Well this is the configuration I've.
Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz HT
Intel 865 GBF original Motherboard
2x80GB IDE Seagate 7200 rpm Hard Drives
1GB DDR 400 RAM as 512+256+256 on three slots.
1.44MB Floppy Drive
16x Sony DRU 810a DVD RW
nVidia GeForce FX 5200 (128MB) AGP Graphics Card
10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet Adapter
400 W SMPS
Now my problem:
This system reboots at any moment!!! Ya any moment. I tried reformatting,
checking memory, checking HDD, different OS (Win XP/Vista and Linux FC 5/SuSE
10.1). But nothing helps!!! Windows sometimes gives a Blue Screen crash dump
with some error or mostly with only woth a STOP code. The stop codes vary so
I've not put them here. Linux doesn't even give a warning, a straight reboot!
I donno what to do. I've tried different memory configs, even removed my
nVidia GPU and ran the system on the onboard Intel 865 GPU. The reboot
frequency is reduced but it maybe even a coincidence. Currently I've
reinstalled my AGP card.
Please help me! Thanks in advance.

- Windows XP Hardware >> Can't Burn Cds with Native SoftwareI can't burn CDs after installing SP2. I am using XP's native software.
I CAN read CDs, though. I thought maybe I need to update the driver for the
CD drive, but when I look in the device manager, where should I find the CD
drive? Should it be under "Drives"? Or somewhere else? As it is, there's
no CD drive listed under "Drives", and there is one device listed as
"Unknown", and I think this is my CD drive, which would indicate a problem,
eh?
And, I had previoulsy used TweakUI to move the cd burning folder. But after
installing SP2, I used TweakUI to return the CD folder to where I thought it
should be. Could you confirm that it's supposed to be in "Documents and
Settings/UserName/Local Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/Cd Burning"?

- Windows XP Support >> Accessing a DVD Ram from Windows ExplorerHi !
I have a LG GSA-4163 DVD drive. This unit supports DVD-RAM
When I put a DVD-RAM (written by my vidcam) in the drive, Windows
Explorer shows (in My Computer) 0 bytes total space, 0 bytes free
If I double click on the drive, the resulting window is empty.
Using Ulead Video Studio, if I select to insert a video in the
storyboard and specify the same drive (and disk) as the source, it
correctly loads all the scenes stored in it.
How can I see the disk content from Windows Explorer ??
Thanks.

passwords and see all accounts and all seems fine. I can
also enable and disable accounts via mmc. Oh, and there's
no picture by my name in the start menu. Any thoughts
would help, all else fails reinstall. All seems fine

I'll try to download streaming videos, or simply a file
using the Internet Explorer. It then tells me that the
file can't be found. However, if I use say a downlaod
manager (e.i. Go-zilla), it downloads it fine
Unfortunately, streaming video can't be download by Go-
zilla. Neither can a use programs like Macromedia Flash
Player.
Any help would be great

- Windows XP >> ? about treeviews - why so long to generate?Hi! :-)
Suppose I go to look at a particular folder using one of the many programs,
including Windows Explorer, that can and in somecases, will only look at
said folder with a treeview. It, for example, takes 21 seconds to generate
the treeview. Then I look at the same folder with Windows Explorer. It does
not even take one 10th of a second to generate a tiles, icons list or other
view of the same folder. My question is why do treeviews in any program take
so long to generate compared with other views and how can I speed it up?
Thanx in advance :-)

- Windows XP Network >> XP Pro P2P Network ProblemSetup four XP pro machines in a workgroup called harmony.
Also setup the IP address as a class C for the workgroup.
Security and sharing is set up, and we can see all
machines, but we can only access the shared files on one.
On the three other machines we get an error massage along
the lines of:
"<machine name> is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permission."
"Logon failure: The user has not been granted the
requested logon type at this computer."
We have installed and setup the P2P network exactly to all
documented procedures we can find, including books.
We have re-installed Windows XP Pro on all machines
(having fomatted the C: drive first), but get the same
results. Anyone any ideas?

Windows XP Support >> Editing registry in recovery console?
I was clearing the Aurora adware out of a user's computer and it took the
userinit.exe registry entry with it. Now whenever I try to logon to Windows
XP it immediately logs me back out to the Welcome screen.
I need to put the Userinit value back into the
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon registry key, but
can't figure out any way to do that without access to the Windows regedit.exe.
In a possibly unrelated problem, I'm not able to remotely access the machine
either and I don't think it's set up for remote registry services; at least,
I wasn't able to get into it over the network on my machines own regedit (nor
am I able to do any sort of remote access, the machine immediately closes any
connection I establish). All of this just means that I can't make this very
simple and easy fix through the methods I'd normally use.
My question is if there's a way to manually add values to the registry
through the recovery console, or if there's some bootable utility out there
which would let me do that.

Windows XP Support >> Editing registry in recovery console?
Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately in my case it's a matter of the
entire registry value being missing, rather than simply pointing to an .exe
which no longer exists.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately in my case it's a matter of the

Windows XP Support >> Editing registry in recovery console?
I was able to get the registry fix I needed in using this utility:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
The commands were a little tricky to figure out the syntax at first but once
I got that down the machine was back up and running in no time.
My next step would have been to try Bart PE with this plugin:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/regeditpe/
Hope this helps anyone who finds this post in the future.

- Windows XP Support >> Error Message shuts down whatâ??s openHi I have Windows XP and on the rare occasion it would come up with a
box that says something about an error and to press send error report
or dont send error report, but lately almost everytime you open a new
window to go on the internet that box comes up and no matter what you
press it shuts down everything you have open. I sometimes move it to
the side of the screen and ignore it but then another box will come up
saying to press ok and that some error has occured and will shut down
what you have open.
How can i stop this, its getting really annoying? Im not familiar with
all computer technical languge so if someone is able to explain it to
me in more simple terms i would really appreciate it.
Thanks

- Windows XP Network >> Cannot ping one printer on networkI've got a rather strange problem that has me stumped.
I have 6 computers in a pod connected via a switch to our main network. All
of the computers can access our local net and the internet. Also on the
switch is a Phaser 8400 printer with IP 10.11.4.55. All computers can print
to this printer without any problems whatsoever, except for one.
The one computer that cannot print can also access the net fine. I can ping
any other printer on our network, except for 10.11.4.55. I've checked the
routing and ARP tables, and everything appears correct. I've tried booting to
a networkable boot disk, which also cannot ping that one particular host.
Just to reiterate, every other computer can ping that IP with no problems.
I'm stumped at this point, any suggestions? Thank you!

- Windows XP >> Floppy Disk DriveHi All,
I am on Windows XP, and for some reason I cannot access any floppy disk as
they cannot be read on my floppy drive.
I have had the pc for 3yrs, and am sure I have used some disks in it during
that time.
I know some of them might have been set-up on Windows 98, but that shouldnt
make a difference should it.
Every time I put a disk in that has something on, it tells me I need to
format the disk.
Even when I do, it still wont work.
I have removed the drivers and rebooted, with no resolution.
I know nobody uses floppy disk drives no more, but I have information on
some that I need to access.
Can anyone help me
Thanks
