Windows XP Network >> Initial Wireless Connection Hello:

I am new to wireless. I ran the wizzard just to see what it would do. Not
much different than manual setup.

Anyway where I am lost is, when you add a new connection to your prefered
list and it has wep enabled the first time you connect you get a drop down
box asking where you are connecting from, Home, Office, Away, or Custom
Settings.

I can't seem to find out what the differences are in these choices.

Can someone tell me what settings change by choosing different options
there?

Thanks
Vince

Windows XP641

Richard

Windows XP Network >> Initial Wireless Connection Those are not standard Windows networking choices. I would suspect you're
looking at a configuration page from your wireless card's drivers/utility,
not Windows.

Windows XP Network >> Initial Wireless Connection Thanks for the links.

Since I have no choice but to use some form of encryption and can not turn
it off just for one person here and there to test I will just have to make
sure users are aware that if they have problems they need to contact the
wireless card manufactruer that made thier card.

I know the system works and has good distance. I purchased commercial
equipment to make this happen.

Windows XP Network >> Initial Wireless Connection I think your message is from Norton Internet Security, and it is trying to
auto-sense your different networks and asking you to give each location a
name so you can customise your settings for each location. If the PC is only
being used in one location you can call it anything, otherwise just call it
whatever is the most appropriate.
