- Windows XP Setup >> XP has to goI have Windows XP installed. I don't want it anymore - I
have to get rid of it. Window's built-in help file said
that Add/Remove programs would allow me to uninstall
Windows by locating the words Windows XP. That option
isn't in Add/Remove programs. So what do I do now?

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Can I delete all restore files from D drive-It's full.I am in need of urget help before my PC dies. I have a Presario 56500NX with
partitioned drives. All of my programs and files are saved on C drive. C
drive capacity is 144GB, free space is 124GB with 86% free space. Drive D is
a totally different story! Capacity 5.14GB Free space is 982MB with only 18%
free space. I researched it, and on both drives did "disk cleanups", "file
compressions", uninstalled programs no longer used, defraged both drives,
deleted all "system restores" with exception of current date. I copied my 1
system restore to disks. Can I now go in and delete all the files on D
drive. HP support advised me to un-install my OS and reinstall. Will that
work??? I really don't want to hose my PC...I use my PC to work from home.

- Windows XP Support >> windows explorer keeps crashingI posted this a few other places but all answers I have recieved do not work.
Everytime I start up an error automatically pops up and says windows
explorer has encountered a problem and must close. So, if I click close well
it goes away for like 30 seconds then pops up again.
If I click send report It send a response, then the box closes and then
again it ops up. Let's say it is a never ending circle.
I have click on details and it does tell me that it has to deal with
explorer.exe
and also, tells me a file that is involved. I try to like get rid of that
file but Nothing will stay open long enough to do a thing.
There were other malfunctions along with this like windows installer auto
opens at start up, but I used some info somone in here gave me and it stopped.
I do not know if anything got downloaded in the past week, when this started,
I know where to check some places to see what new is downloaded. Could it be
something that was downloaded that I did not know and where are the places I
can look.
One day I did have a porn site shortcut on the desktop when I opened up but
I thought I deleted it all.
Would i help to do anything in Safe Mode or run some type of SFC scan
orwhatever?
Any?

When I try and capture from DV tape to PC the Video settings page appears but
then I do not get the Capture Page to capture entire tape. This means I can
only capture direct from the Camera and not from anything I have already
recorded. Anyone have any suggestions?

Windows XP MovieMaker >> "Capture Page" does not appear
Thanks Graham, I was being a bit thick (well, a lot really)! You are
absolutely right, I didn't hae the digicam in playback mode (which also
explained why I couldn't rewind the tape)!! The only thing in my defense is
that the digicam was only 1 hour old when I was trying this out.
Thanks Again

- Windows XP >> WinXP: TCP/IP fails if "File and Printer Sharing" is enabledWinXP: TCP/IP fails if "File and Printer Sharing" is enabled
A new installation of XP Pro.
Initial setup gave me the 4 default components:
Client for MS Networks (CMSN)
File and Printer Sharing (FaPS)
QoS
TCP/IP
Running DHCP via a router.
Removed QoS.
Packets get sent from the machine but none are received.
Checked ICF and it is not enabled.
Disable everything but TCP/IP, "repair" the connection and all is well
(except for being able to share).
Enable CMSN and connection stays good. However, if I reboot I have to
go back to disabling everything except TCP/IP, repair the connection,
and then add CMSN again.
At any time if I enable FaPS, the connection dies immediately. I test
this by having multiple pings going and as soon as I enable it, the
pings fail.
I've made certain that TCP/IP is the only thing bound to FaPS. No
help.
Uninstalled & reinstalled FaPS. No luck.
Tried it over NetBEUI. Works for a brief period and fails on reboot.
NetBIOS is enabled over TCP/IP.
Any help is appreciated!!

- Windows XP Hardware >> hard disk life span power managementhi!
i was wondering, what's best for saving hard disk's life span through
power management.
there are two main considerations i can think of:
setting power management to deactivate hard disk every 15 min or so.
this would keep the disk cooler and improve life span.
but opposing that some people say stopping and starting the hard disk
frequently is really bad and deactivate hard disk should be generally
set to never!
what do you think?
