- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> credentials cacheWhile doing a backup of my files, the software I'm using shows a windows
explorer-like inteface so the user is able to select items to be backed up.
Then it hangs for a long time and then presents the login screen of a ftp
site that I haven't accessed for a long time. After I cancel, it shows also
the .NET passport login screen. Only after I cancel both the backup process
can begin.
It looks like my software is searching through all possibilities and these
two are somewhere in cache. However, in an attemp to clean it out, I've
searched through the registry and also several other places in my hard disk
and I couldn't find where this info is stored!
What's the way to wipe the ftp info out of my system???
Many thanks!
Henrique

- Windows XP Hardware >> Windows won't startToday I bought a new power source, processor and motherboard. I go the guys at the store put the processor onto the motherboard for me so this shouldn't be the problem and the powersource is working right now with the old stuff so.... The problem will most likely be the motherboard.
When I start up my computer the screen stays blank (the green power button on the monitor blinks green). My HD tries to read info (i think) every min or so. If I have a cd in the cd rom every 30 seconds about I get 2 beeps, a pause and then 5 beeps. That's it.
Intel's site suggested it is a RAM problem. The guys at the store said the one stick or RAM I brought with me as a confirmation should do just fine with all the new stuff. I have 3 sticks or completely different RAM and I tried all 3 individually and in pairs and got the same results.
Someone has said to "Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP" but how would I do this or how would it work if nothing will load at all? Here's the info for the new stuff I bought ... I'm running on XP Hom
Motherboard: D865PERLX ATX P4 800/533MHZ FSB - Inte
Processor: P4 mPGA478 2.40C GHZ 512KB 800MHZ FSB - Inte

Hopefully I can get some feedback by tomorrow so I can get this all fixed up. Thanks in advance.

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Saving to USB removable discHi,
Created movie. I want to burn it on a dvd but have to burn it at a friends
place since I dont have a burner. Bought a USB device and saved it. Took it
to friends place and it saved the LINK to wmmp; file is only 1034kb. When I
load it on another computer, it doesn't work obviously because that computer
doesn't have my pictures to load. It just links us to the site. So it appears
that unless all my picutres are store in wmmp on someone else's computer I
cant do this?? Or of course unless I buy a burner in which case I may as well
by another pc...
This was suppose to be for someone's upcoming Bday present. Sending it by
emailing doesn't cut it since the pictures are so small. I want to play it on
a tv.
Can it be done? Can it be saved in such a way that it actually saves the
movie and not just the link? The picutres all come up as red X's on any other
pc since the photos arent accessible.
I'm running out of options and time!
Note that it plays on my own pc from the removable drive so I know that
something is actually being saved..

- Windows XP >> XP activation sitehttp://www.microsoft.com/piracy/basics/activation/
I think they need to get a different picture on the XP
activation-piracy site.
The man just looks like: "I dare you to install one XP on
two+ computers".
Or: "you are going to have to get another XP software and
I will make more money".
And: "we have figured out how to create more door stops
and/or boat anchors".
Can we say good TopTen list.

- customize >> display settings in taskbar...i don't seem to have the option for a 'display settings' in the taskbar
anywhere on my machine, so i thought i would make a link myself.
i have made a custom shortcut to the following location:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\desk.cpl
my questions are these:
what extra bit of command line do i need to add onto the above link in order
to open directly on the 'settings' tab instead of the 'themes' tab?
and
how can i make the icon appear in the task bar next to the clock?
if anybody could help that would be great, thanks!

When I right-click on the desk top screen no window shows

- Windows XP Update >> GetUserTokenFromSessionId failed with hr 0x800704ddThis is the first error in the log. Symptom: Updates download but fail to
install. Each one can be manually downloaded and installed, but that is no
permanent solution. I did extensive research on this issue. Lots of people
complaining, a number of solutions offered, none of them worked for me or for
almost anyone else.
This is on a friend's computer, Windows XP Home Edition. It had a lot of
malware, which I cleaned manually. (The computer is clean according to
SpyBot-S&D and security.symantec.com.) Now everything appears to be working
fine except the WU feature. Maybe there is some remaining corruption in the
system. Installing SP2 didn't help (neither did sfc/scannow). Unfortunately,
I don't have the Windows installation CD to do Repair. That would be my last
resort.
Here is an incidental finding, which might provide a clue to someone else:
Knowing that errors are often misreported, I tried running RegMon and FileMon
with hopes of seeing where actually the error occurs. However, these tools
fail to start, with an error like "Error loading REGMON70: Cannot create a
file when that file already exists. Make sure that your account has the load
driver privilege and
and that Regmon is not already running." I suspect the actual error is
misreported in this case too (ironically), but there is perhaps some
connection with the WU error since they are both security-related.
Following is the relevant snippet of the WU log:
2005-04-08 11:08:33-0500 996 510 WU client executing call

my nephew is taking the machine to college with him, and would like a local

printers, there is a message in the box that says unable to find any drivers

thing. Not sure where to go next, and I really don't want to
reinstall....does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
