- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Audio Files in MM2I have created 6 different MM2 project files for a family
wedding. I have added wav files onto the audio/music
track and muted the audio portion of the video clip.
Everything worked fine, the clips played fine on the
computer and the audio sounded great.
I imported these MM2 wmv files into Roxio ECD 6 and made
a DVD project file to burn. I chose to burn to a DVD+RW
so that I could make changes if necessary. When the DVD
was played on my DVD player, the audio had a distinctive
popping, or cracking sound. There were some parts of the
project where the audio portion of the video clip was
left intact and used instead of the wav file. That
sounded OK, but when the parts with the wav file played
again, there was the popping.
Any thoughts on why there would be the difference in
sound quality between the burned wav file and the
imbedded audio of the video clip? Is it in my player, or
how it was burned?

- Windows XP Setup >> Write Data on DVDI just installed a DVD-R on my desktop. I would like to do my backup on DVDs
to take advantage of morespace than a regular CD (4.5GB). I try to do a drag
and drop but it will not recognize or copy the files. Is there a good
software out there to accomplish what I want to do. I tried Windows Media
Player and did not work.
Please let me know if there is something I can do within Windows XP. I am
running XP _ Pro.

- Windows XP Setup >> User ID doesn't appear on XP welcome screenI removed several programs from my computer (Gator &
Adobe vs 5.0). I also installed MS's latest XP Patch.
When I reloaded my computer, my User ID wasn't on the XP
Pro welcome screen. I logged in as administrator and
went to Control Panel - user accounts. The ID wan't there
either. I attempted to recreate my user ID, but am told
by XP that the user account already exists.
How can I
1) Reestablish the account so that I can log back in
using it?
or
2) Delete and recreate it?
Ideas anyone???

- Windows XP Network >> Workgroup displays nothing on laptop with XP ProI just added a new Dell desktop (running XP Pro) on my home network, and am unable to see it on any of the other machines when looking under 'Entire Network' / Workgroup (ie, my laptop (XP PRO) and my other desktop (2000)). However, I can ping the new machine and access it from the Run command on either machine by simply typing in the new desktops IP address from either the laptop or the desktop, but for some reason it will NOT show up on my laptop or on my desktop machines under the Workgroup. In addition, my laptop now fails to show ANY of the other machines on my network too. I have double checked the Workgroup names (ie, all are set at WORKGROUP) , can ping each machine, etc
Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks much

- Windows XP >> Win xp boots to logo and stopsHello. I have been struggling with this problem for a few days now and CAN
NOT BRING Windows back (XP home eddition on a dell puter). Windows hangs just
before login screen (I see blue screen with Windows XP logo and mouse
pointer). Before that if press F8 I can't even get into the safe mode. It
shows safe mode in each corners of a black page like it wants to bring it
then it goes back to the blue logo screen. I have tried many many many times
to boot with XP cd but it does not do anything. I ran diagnostic At one point
I got this error code 0F00:136C which I googled it and everyone points to the
CD-Rom but further test of the CD-Rom and DVD came out "test passed". I can't
even boot from the floppy. Appreciate any suggestion that might point me to
the right direction!

- Windows XP Setup >> Quick question re: F.A.S.T. file transfer programSaw the discussion of a couple days ago about transfering files from an
older Windows computer to a WinXP machine. I expect that it will transfer
files, but does it transfer an installed program? I.e. if I have a program
I installed into an older computer and it made registry changes etc. on that
old machine will the FAST transfer program bring it to the new machine such
that I can just click on the executable program and expect it to run?
I'm guessing it just transfers files like word processing files I made,
pictures I generated, etc. and not a functioning already installed program.
Simply transferring the contents of a folder to a new machine won't make the
program run on the new machine. The program needs to be installed, not just
files transferred. Right?

- Windows XP Setup >> windows xp freezeI have a Gateway laptop that came loaded with Windows XP Home Edition. After
about 1 1/2 years of running fine, it began to randomly freeze. The
manufacturer has been unable to help me. I've done the following:
- clean install of Windows XP
- wrote zeros to the drive and installed Windows XP
- ran diagnostics on hardware components (including a 3 hour system load
test)
- set BIOS to default settings
Nothing seems to get rid of the random freezes that I am experiencing.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

- Windows XP >> HTMLHello, I'm new at this.
Why is it that when I try to get the HTML page of
whatever is on the window by using VIEW>SOURCE on the
toolbar, nothing happens?
I was able to do that before. What could have happened?
Earlier today I tried it again, VIEW>SOURCE and the HTML
page popped up. I thought that it got restored somehow so
I closed that page and tried to do it again from another
window. No luck. I went back to the window where it
actually worked and this time the HTML page didn't pop up.
Can anybody help please. I am using XP.

I play poker alot and for some reason now my computer says it does not have
enough memory to bring up a tournament on certain websites. I have never had

I created a second user on my computer. I would like to use the same settings
for this user account as I do for the primary account. I would also like
future changes with the primary to be reflected in the secondary account. I
want my existing data to remain where it is.

When I tried to use the copy routine as described in the link, certain
settings didn't seem to copy like the wallpaper, the quick launch toolbar and
some other things. Should I have expected this new user to be exactly the
same as the original user?

by default (2000 - it's enabled by default).
There seems to be no mention of how to enable in the
unattended installation reference, in the MS knowledge
base, or elsewhere.
Is there an easy was to do this (even a consistent
registry key)?

- Windows XP >> Auto-run on insertion of USB pen driveI've just been asked by my boss if the following is possible.
As a promotion, we want to give away a USB pen drive (aka "memory
stick"). These will have a small PowerPoint presentation
pre-installed.
Is it possible to run these automatically on insertion of the drive
into the USB port? My initial thought is "no", on account of security
implications.
Any ideas?

recognize it. I changed the setting on both drives to
cable select, still windows wouldn't show the new drive.
Although the bios recognize the new drive windows
would'nt. Please advise me of a solution.

- Windows XP Support >> deleting files and folders WinXP HomeHi y'all,
I've done a little searching in the KB and didn't find anything to help me
with my problem. I've even looked here and nada. Any way, I cannot delete
nor open some files and folders on one of my drives. I have admin rights.
I've tried safe mode, tried command prompt while explorer is closed (a
suggestion from someone here). I've tried everything I can think of. Any
ideas?

- Windows XP Support >> corrupted system fileI'm working on a dell xp pro machine with the following error upon restarting:
Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
I went into the recovery console off a xp pro disk (was not installed on the
hard drive) and replaced the c:\windows\system32\config\system file with the
c:\windows\repair\system.bak file (.bak extension removed).
I used the "system.bak" file because, in the \repair folder, a "system" file
did not exist (contrary to ms kb artical 307545). I have other dells in the
office and tried to copy the "system" file onto a cd for transfer onto the
flawed computer (too large for a floppy), but it's useless because the
recovery console is running from an xp disk in the only cd drive.
Upon exiting, windows now boots until it reaches the black microsoft windows
xp screen, but never makes it any further (in normal mode). In safe mode,
windows boots until it gets to a list of drivers and then locks up.
I tried going back into the recovery console, and it's now asking for a
password, which of course is invalid. I looked up fixes for this problem and
they all require going into windows. I also noted that it may be possible to
work around the password if you boot from a windows 2000 cd.
I would greatly appreciate any advice, including opening the window and
throwing the thing onto the street.

drives.. why?

I have some new laptops w/XP on them using wireless
cards. THe problem is, the darn things boot so fast and
(we use tweakui) automatically log into the desktop, that
wireless communications/drivers are not yet fully loaded
with a (therefore cached) profile is loaded - causing some
of our programs to not work/launch properly.
Can I set a 3-5 second delay upon bootup before it tries
to log in?

I have seen some great answers on this site.
I'm running XP home with SP1 and Win 98SE on a local network.
The win98 uses nwlink ipx/spx netbios to access the XP and works
always.
I've used the network wizard on both machines. I'm using a D-link Hub
and a cable internet connect. Both machines easily connect to the
internet thru the hub.
The XP has for protocol:
nwlink net bios, nwling ipx/spx net bios and tcp/ip.
When I try to read a drive on win98, the XP takes 3 mins 10 sec to
access the win98. Then everything reads and transfers normally.
Sometimes win98 stays accessible other times I have the 3 min wait
again.
The task manager says the network call not responding, cancelling the
call, machine hangs up and needs rebooting.
