- Windows XP Network >> Error 67 with login script - too fast? The login script I use works well in my peer-to-peer environment, except
when I want it to be executed at startup.
My computer has automatic loging into main account (using TweakUI) and the
login script is executed at startup but can't map any share drive (Error
67). I tried both share names and IP with NET USE command. Weirdly enough,
the SAME script launched manually just a few seconds after startup works
well.
- If I login into Windows with a logon screen (classic or XP-Style), the
script will works because Windows will have finished to startup in
background. If Windows autologon using TweakUI, the script won't work, like
if it was running few seconds to early. Lauching it manually after startup
and the script will work.
- Same behavior with Prefetch. If the prefetch directory is empty, the
script will work. If the prefetch is not empty, Windows starts faster and
the script won't work when launched the first time. I have to launched it
manually
The only solution I found is to "wake up" the LAN by pinging it quite a few
times, but then the login delay is tedious.
Here is the script:
@echo off
Title Connection
echo Connection en cours
Ping serveur -n 1 | find " TTL="
if errorlevel 1 goto WakeIt
goto NoWake
:WakeIt
Title Connection **
ping localhost -n 20
Ping serveur -n 1
:NoWake
net use R: "\\serveur\data" /persistent:No
net use S: "\\serveur\lib" /persistent:No
net use T: "\\serveur\musique" /persistent:No
Ping bureau -n 1 | find " TTL="
if errorlevel 1 goto NoBureau
net use U: "\\bureau\data" /persistent:no
net use V: "\\bureau\lib" /persistent:no
:Nobureau
Ping famille -n 1 | find " TTL="
if errorlevel 1 goto NoFamille
net use w: "\\famille\lib" /persistent:no
:Nofamille

My guess is that this error 67 is related to master browsing delay.
Anyway suggestion to solve this?

- Windows XP Support >> Windows update failureI have got the little icon that tells me that updates are ready to be
installed. After the progress I get the following error message:
{BCFF9EA6-39FA-4D69-9EF9-1E03D2FAF5EB} 100 80070103 AutomaticUpdates Failure
Content Install Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the

The online Help hasn't got anything in its data base regarding this error
(got there via 'my computer', 'manage', 'event viewer', 'system' and then
double click the event and clicking the link)
Can I reset this update so it can download again or is there any other way?

- Windows XP >> Copy error message on bootup since last updateHi all,
Ever since I've done the last Microsoft Windows update,
I've received the following error message when I click on
one of the profiles on my Windows XP Home system:
"Windows cannot find 'copy.' Make sure you typed the
name correctly, and then try again. To search for a
file, click the Start button, and then click Search."
I've noticed that there are a few people here in this
newsgroup that are having the exact same problem. Any
assistance concerning this issue would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Chris Z.

- Windows XP Update >> new user can't login from the networkAfter completely rebuilding my SBS2003 server onto a new harddrive and
restoring all previous users, I attempted to add a new user. The process went
smoothly but the user cannot login from any workstation.
I was able to log her in directly to the server so I know that her
credentials are good.
I set her up both using the wizard as a power user and manually through
users and computers using a standard template. The process worked fine for my
other users (who were users on the old system).
Any suggestions on where to look?

Any help would be great .

- Windows XP Hardware >> Video Card or RAM issue?I'm working on a friends machine running an Athlon processor, Windows XP Pro
and 512 MB of Crucial memory with an NVidia Ti4600 video card. The machine
will not boot normally, only to Safe Mode. Some, not all, desktop icons are
blacked out. Same for some taskbar icons. Mouse movement or clicking an
icon can result in blocks of black stripes that do not go away unless
another window is opened or the machine is rebooted.
There was an error message regarding the video driver from NVidia, but
Device Manager shows no problems at all. When I cracked the box and checked
the RAM I found one stick in contact with the edge of the video card. Just
enough contact to see it and feel it when removing or inserting the stick in
its slot. I removed hundreds of items of spyware, adware (Ad-Aware found
174 items!) and other malware as this system was not protected in any way
and is cable modem connected to the internet.
Does anyone have any ideas about the problems? At this point, I am leaning
toward uninstalling the video card drivers and reinstalling to see if that
is the cause. When I left the machine last night it was cycling black
screen and desktop at regularly spaced intervals. Could bad RAM be suspect
here? What about both bad RAM and a bad video driver or even failing video
card? It would seem that both failing at once would be a low probability.
Any help will be appreciated. I'm returning this evening to try a couple
more things on this machine.

- Windows XP Network >> Remember Network Key - Wireless SetupI'm trying to use encryption on my wireless network but
unfortunately I can't get it to save the network key
settings after specifying them.
Specifically I'm trying to use WPA-PSK with a passphrase;
but windows will not store the key and instead I am
prompted for the key everytime a new wireless connection
is established, when using WEP the key is not stored
either.
Everything is setup and working fine I just don't want to
have to type the key in every time I restart my computer,
end users would have trouble navigating to the network
configuration area and typing in my secret passphrase,
even if I wanted to let them know what it was!
Any help would be appreciated.

- Windows XP Update >> kb928388 Why not for Windows 2000. Why not autodownload. What the heck would possess Microsoft not to make this update available for
Windows 2000. This now means all of the businesses still using Win2000 that
are not on a domain will have to turn off Automatic daylight time adjust and
manually do this twice a year if this update does not come down for Win
2000.
On a further note I know this is not a security update but Microsoft has put
non security items in the security section to make them work with automatic
updates, one very receint one that comes to mind is the Genuine Advantage
Notification download. So why not put this there since many of the general
users will not even consider going to the windows site and look for
something like this. In my experience most non tech people simply get the
automatic updates and never go to the windows site. Not having this download
automatically will bring lots of questions this spring when the computers do
not change to daylight savings time correctly.

- Windows XP Setup >> Setup Failed during Install Of XP Home SP1 Error# fffffb4aI just installed a new hard drive on my computer and I wanted to re-install
windows on to it when the Drive to Drive copy failed. I erased the partition
on the original drive and wanted to reinstall windows on to the new drive.
The setup found an installation of windows on the new drive (because I copied
it) and asked if I wanted to repair it instead of doing a fresh install. I
chose to do a repair. When the timer says 39 minutes remaining (it sits
there or some time) it gives me an error saying this:
"Setup failed to install product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup
logs should contain more info."
Setup Log:
"The signature for Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade is invalid. Error Code
is fffffb4a.
The System cannot find message text for message # 0xfffffb4a in the file for
syssetup.dll"
Then it restarts and instead of going back to the original setup menu asking
me if I wanted to repair or do a clean install it goes back into the
installation and attempts to pick up where it left off, giving me another
error. I just want to start over and do a fresh installation, please help!

- Windows XP Support >> one problem, one questionI have a problem on my son's computer... When he turns
it on, it boots to win XP in a timely manner. When he
logs on (or the administrator in Safe Mode as well), an

Anyone know what causes this and how to repair it?
Also, how do you add items to the 'Save As' menu on

According to this article, the system BIOS must be able to boot from CD in
order to use the El Torito disk, so would that be useful to you?

I believe Isobuster can extract the contents of an .iso:

Click on the Tools link and follow the instructions for each step:

It has easy, thorough instructions, and I was able to burn a CD after I

- Windows XP Hardware >> Troubleshooting SCSI ScannerI am having trouble getting a scanner to work in XP. It's
a AGFA DuoScan. My SCSI card is installed, and is up to

find the scanner. I get this message when trying to
import in photo shop:

The only thing I can figure is that it isn't assigned a
correct SCSI ID? (but I'm not all that familliar with
SCSI). The scanner manual said it should be 2 by default.
I am kind of in a crunch and really need to get this
scanner working. I have been to AGFA, Adaptec &
microsoft's webpages, and have updated everything I can
find to update, and been through all the troubleshooting
topics I could find, and even uninstalled and re-
installed the adaptec controller. I am stumped as to why
it doesn't work (it worked on a previous computer with
xp, using the same SCI card). Any help would be VERY MUCH
appreciated. Feel free to email me at
