- Windows XP Hardware >> Uninstalling ScannerPosted this prob a few times now, still no success though.
Tried installing a scanner via LPT1:, am using XP Pro.
Didn't have XP drivers, but got 2K drivers which are
supposed to work.
Tried installing via Scanners & Cameras in control panel.
Did this twice, with no success.
My problem is that I now have 2 entries in Device
Manager, for an unknown device, in "Imaging".
I can not get rid of these entries, no matter what I try.
Get a message, "Uninstall failed, could be a boot device"
Tried to uninstall from device manager.
Tried to uninstall from device manager in safe mode.
Tried disabling first, then uninstalling.
Tried disabling LPT1:, then uninstalling scanner entry.
Always get same message, no matter what.
Any new suggestions.
Thank You.

- Windows XP Support >> Norton Go-Back QuestionI just purchased NAV 6.0 along with Norton Go-Back. In the past on very rare
occasions, I've used MS System Restore that is part of my WinXP Home SP2
software. I'm wondering if Go-Back will interfere with System Restore or
installing any of the multitudinous critical or security updates from MS.
Should I turn off Go-Back while installing MS updates? TIA.

Windows XP >> Screensaver on multiple PC's
I've been asked to design a screensaver that will run at the same time on
multiple networked PC's (like a BestBuy TV showroom). Can a screensaver be
designed to start at the top of the minute - based on the PC's clock? This
way I could have individual screensavers loaded in each PC - this way content
could flow from one screen to another. Or is there another way to go about
this?
Thanks for any and all help.

- Windows XP >> Boot virus & root kit?Hello,
I contacted you last week concerning a boot virus and you directed me to"
drive scrubber"(nice product)
problem is that even with a 7 hr complete wipe, I still have the virus.I
have unpluged my machine and removed the battery and all memory overnight
and cleared the cmos
when i reinstall windows xp (any version)on this HDD the same thing happens
.......For about five minuites after connecting to the net everything is
fine .. then all of a sudden i cannot connect (even though my connection is
showing active) i tried to scan with various online scanners but it wont let
me download them giving me various error messages ..I have even tried
loading full virus protection from a cd (norton internet security 2006)but
it stopped the live update process.... same with trend micro, this virus is
STEALTH and after about 20 min the pc basically locks up. and cpu is
overworking . also you cannot set the drive as slave and scan because the
virus will infect the master drive (already happened )I took my pc to
another repair technician and he didn't want to hook it up to his.( He has
no idea either) I did some research and i believe i have a root kit virus ..
there is a program on the net called "ICESWORD" that detects rootkit virus
but i do not know how to use the program and it has no instructions with it
.Its found on the sysinternals site.If anyone has any info on this type of
virus and how to remove it please contact me in this form .. i have 2 HDD
down and a 6 gig travel drive that i cannot use
after a week im running out of ideas nothing shows up in Hyjack this .
cannot download virus software in safe mode with networking & scanners will
not work in safemode either
Please help

- Windows XP Network >> reconnect at startupI have an application that requires a drive on the computer be mapped to a
drive letter on the same computer. I go through the map drill, checking the
"Remap on logon" box, but the mapping does not survive a restart.
I have made up a batch file with the command line
NET USE X: \\ALAN-DESKTOP\ACSNET /PERSISTENT:YES
which does the job when run from a command prompt but I haven't been able to
find a spot to call it from on startup or restart. Any suggestions?

- Windows XP Setup >> HD not detected on installI have a system with two Hard Drives (C and F). I have Windows XP installed on the C drive, however I want to install XP on the F drive and clean the C drive out. When I run setup to do a fresh install, I click the radio button to "prompt me for the drive to install XP to" however, when I get to the part where I choose which drive to install XP to I only have the option to install to the C drive. The F drive is not in the list. Can anyone help ?

- Windows XP >> Under Reporting Hard Drive SizeI have a two hard drive system. One is a 12.7 Gigabyte capacity, and the
other one is and 80 gigabyte capacity. When I had Windows 98 SE, the software
put a dynamic drive overlay in the boot program. I upgraded to XP Home and
stayed with the FAT 32 file system. Now the computer is reporting the
capacity of the 80 gigabyte hard drive as 31.4 gigabyte. I have tried every
suggestion that I could find, to no avail. The 80 gigabyte hard drive is the
slave in the system, because I want to primarily use it for storage. Help! I
do not want to change the file system and have to reinstall the XP Home OS.
