Windows XP >> HELP!!! REinstalled XP OS and loss all files I need Urgent help on how to get back my files. I reinstalled Windows Xp
Home unto my computer after it refused to start. Now all previous files are
lost but the folder are still intact.

Can someone please find me on how I could get back my old files. I've tried
searching but the files can't be found.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Windows XP >> HELP!!! REinstalled XP OS and loss all files Hi,

If they do not exist, then they are, for all intents and purposes, gone. The
reinstallation (instead of a proper repair installation) likely wiped them
out. You can use one of the many freeware undelete utilities to see if any
remnant of them remains on the hard drive, but you will likely be
disappointed. All the drive activity has probably overwritten them, and
chances of meaningful recovery are slim.

Did you do a clean install or a repair install?

If a clean install, then all programs and data is lost.
Its always an idea to have REGULAR BACKUPS in case of failures like
this.

If a repair install, the folders may be there but the data is
inaccessible, login as 'administrator' user and you need to regain
'ownership' of the folders and files to see them again. Boot into
Safe Mode and in folder properties, select Security tab and the option
to regain ownership should be available.
