- Windows XP >> quicktime set as defaultRecently I installed a program which added Quicktime to
my computer. Now when playing streaming video Quicktime
opens instead of Media Player. I assume default player
settigs have been changed but I can't find the place to
change this.
I use XP Professional.

I've some how changed my sound settings so that I can only listen through
the headphone socket and my built in speakers don't work. The headphone
socket also has a red light coming from it which I presume means that the
sound will only come from there.
I cannot find the setting that has doe this, does anyone have any ideas?

- Windows XP >> cursor moves by itselfWhen in Quicken, my cursor moves to the beginning of the line every 5-10 seconds. I have reloaded the program with no help. This happens after the computer has been on for 10-15 minutes. Do you think I have a bad component on my motherboard? I have tried a different mouse with the same results. I also notice a slight flicker on my screen every 5-10 seconds. Please help!!

appear in exactly the same folders and subfolders as on
the orginal computer rather than them coming over and

- Windows XP Update >> service pack 2Anybody know of any issue with this update as to dvdrw drives. I have a Sony DRU-700A that disappeared on me after updating to SP2. Which of the patches or should I remove all of SP2 to get my PC to recongnize the drive again. Trying to add new hardware or discover new hardware comes up with nothing. My other cdrw an artec cdrw drive is still working properly. Any suggestions???

I uninstalled the card in hopes that when I restarted it,
it would reinstall, but it won't let me reinstall, the
specific message is "cannot install due to errors, access
is denied"
very unusual for this to happen without warning, any tips

- Windows XP Hardware >> Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT Express Graphics CardOkay, I went to Best Buy and purchased this card at 199.00 with a instant
rebate of 20.00. An hour later they said that card was not the right
connection type and substituted another one which I thought was another
Express one. I had them do the installation too.
When I got home, I noticed that the box was NOT an Exrpress one. It was a
GeForce 6600.
Should I take this card back and complain?

If I walked into my local nick and complained that MI5 were snooping on me,
they would show me the door without even looking at my evidence, because
that bored desk seargant with only five years to go before he retires
doesn't want to start fucking about with somebody who has incurred the
wrath of Stella Rimington. He would rather deal with the lost dogs and
driving licence producers, eat his cheese and pickle sandwiches and piss
off home at the end of his shift than have some high ranking spook having
a go at his boss and getting him a bollocking.
In short, you have earned much sympathy but little surprise. Just remember
that saying about the enemy of your enemies.

I think the police know well what's going on. It is up to them to do
something about it. They know I've made a complaint at a police station.
I could probably do more to try to help myself (I think someone suggested
making a written complaint to the chief constable) but even then I nthink
they would not take action.

So we have a situation where the security service breaks the law,
everyone knows MI5 breaks the law, and the police won't investigate
crimes that would otherwise earn a jail sentence.
Oh good, I'm really glad the UK is a democracy. (<sarcasm>, for those of
you who didn't catch that)

In this case I think it is 'high-ranking' police officers who are aware
of the persecution, they know a complaint has been made, and they're
doing nothing. What is more, I don't think there is anything I can do
that would make them take action, both because they may be being 'leant
on' and through the wider view that it could be deleterious to the state
to have a persecution by state organs exposed.
They're wrong in taking that point of view, because sooner or later this
will all out anyway, and they it will be n years of police inaction
(n>=6) that will be questioned.

- Windows XP >> Very Odd Process Error?Need some help here. Everytime i try to run almost any
program (whether it be through it's shortcut or it's
executable directly) i receive the following error alert:
"only part of a readprocessmemory or writeprocessmemory
request was completed"
I've searched online most of today, and have yet to find a
solution. I found a ton of stack trace reprots that carry
this error - it's actually a 299L - ERROR_PARTIAL_COPY
error, but's that's as far as i got.
Can anyone shed some light on what i can do to fix this?
(i have the latest updates, patches, and virus
definitions)

- Windows XP Hardware >> Can't access hard drives after clean install of XP ProI have several hard drives that have important data on them. I used to dual boot between 2000 & XP Pro, but I don't use 2000 anymore. So to get rid of 2000 and reclaim the disk space, I did a clean install of XP Pro. Now I have access to only my system drive and one of my other drives. If I go to My Computer->Manage->Disk Management, XP sees all the drives, displays their volume labels, and their status is all Online, Active & Healthy. However, only two of the drives have drive letter assignments. If I right-click on one of the unassigned drives, the Assign Drive Letter is greyed out. The only thing it allows me to do is to delete the partition or convert it to a dynamic disk. This is the case with three of my drives, all of which were put in service when I had only Win 2000. Before I reinstalled XP, all drives were accessible to both OSes.
These are physically different drives, not different partitions on one drive. The BIOS sees everything fine, and so does Disk Management, but it won't let me assign a drive letter, so I can't access anything.
For a while I used System Commander for multi-booting, and it could be that SC formatted the three drives that now are unassigned, I don't recall for sure.
Any ideas?

I'm thinking of improving the file structure of my
network, my first issue is the saving location Windows
uses, Windows defaults most of the time to the My
Documents folder on the users PC, I want every user to
save on the server as default, so when they save a new
word doc, for example, the save dialog box shows the
server drive location and their personal folder on the
server. If anyone can help me that would be great, the
server uses SBS windows 2000, the workstations are all Win
XP.

Word and most of the other basic office applications allow for you to
set the default location that you want to save files in. You can set the
applications to point to this folder all the time which should help you
in this request. You can also set the home directories in your login
scripts.

installed Windows XP (home edition). Later after installing
Norton's System Works I have had difficulty accessing the
CD ROM. My suspicion is that there is a compatability issue

Wireless G Notebook adapter. I've been trying to get them
to work for 2 weeks. I've had several conversations with
Linksys techs. Today one told me that Hotfixes download
for Windows XP can interrupt wireless operations. Is that

- Windows XP Support >> Decrypting files--Access DeniedI have been trying to decrypt files on an external hard drive with Windows XP
SP2 and have only been recieving access denied errors. I have changed the
ownership of the files with no success. It won't let me copy or move the
files. What do I need to do?????????:( I even have no idea how they have
gotten encrypted to begin with, I had not changed this.If someone could help

- Windows XP Support >> Problem with attachments.I have had a couple people who use Outlook Express for their email,
tell me that they can't open .wmv movies that I send to them. They
report getting the following error message:
Cannot find file://:c:\qualcomm\eudora\attach\(file name).wmv. Make
sure path or Internet address is correct.
The last complaint I received, the guy replied to my letter, and the
file that I attached played just fine for me from his reply, so the
file is getting sent.
I have Eudora set for MIME encoding of attachments, and to put text
attachments in the body. Can anyone tell me any suggestions on how
they can see my videos? Is this a Outlook Express problem or something
I'm doing?

- Windows XP >> different user accountsHi,
I have an XP machine with two different user accts. One
works fine, the other doesn't. both are adm's. Everytime
I open a program on the bad one, such as Word Or IE6 or
OE6, the cpu usage goes to the max, and then basically
dies. I can connect to my DSL thru the good acct, but not
thru the bad one. I ran Ad Aware, didn't find much. Any
ideas, since most of my stuff is on the bad acct. Had to
run AdAware thru the good user acct, as it wouldn't even
install thru the bad one. Tried repairing IE, says it
can't.

to open for all (3) users on my pc. I am the only one
able to use Office. The other users try and it prompts
them to insert the office disk....I do this but no luck???

to archive large Photoshop data files. I'm aware that there are a number of
formats for DVD and I'd appreciate any advice on which is the best to use
