- Windows XP Hardware >> Totally BaffledHey Guys,
Got one for you that has me pulling my hair out. I removed my 2nd hard drive
(file storage only, no operating system), installed an SATA drive to format
it. Got it formatted, removed "C", loaded XP on the SATA, Re-attached
original "C" & 2nd hard drives, rebooted to transfer additional files from
the "C" drive so that I can format "C" drive and use it as storage
also..System will not boot on original hard drive when 2nd hard drive is
connected. Blue screens and re-starts. Removed original "C" drive, system
will boot from SATA, but 2nd hard drive is not showing up in windows
explorer. Drive will show up in Disk Management, but only gives me the option
of delete or format on right click. WHat happened to the drive? I do not want
to reformat this drive, I want to be able to pull the remaining pictures I
have on there and then I am willing to re-format if need be.
The system will blue screen on start up even if I remove the SATA drive and
put everything back as it was before I added the SATA drive.
Please help, I don't have much hair left!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Windows XP >> Registry Missing/IEBack-upHi All:
TweakIE Back-up did not work properly, then I suspected
some of Registry. For this, I used Norton SystemWorks in
my attempts to find the problem. After the completion of
the 'SystemWorks,' it saying,....
"...Registry missing, ... causing some program
does NOT work properly."
My question is;
How to fix this, Registry?
I contacted the maker, ... however due to the weekends,
there is no answer for this problem.
Does anyone know how to fix Registry missing?
Thanks for your help in advance.

- Windows XP Support >> XP pro parallel installUsing a win xp pro academic upgrade disk, I had an upgrade go seriously
south. Could not boot from my main partition.
Microsoft people helped me out by doing a parallel install on 2nd partition
(E: drive) of the same physical drive. Now when I boot I get 2 choices, both
Win XP. The first one works, and I can access data from my (now not
bootable) other (C:) partition.
Questions I'd like advice on:
1. Is this a stable configuration, long term?
2. If I were to buy a new hard drive, could I copy the E: partition onto it
and thereby create a more stable arrangement?
3. Should I just bite the bullet, reformat the whole mess and do a clean
install (obviously would prefer not to go this route).
Thanks for any advice and help.

- Windows XP Hardware >> CD BurningI have a BenQ 48x16x48 cd burner. Anytime I try to burn a

but no files/directories ever show up on the cd. If I put
the cd back in the drive and go to explorer, nothing
happens and when I go to close explorer, I get the
message that the program isn't responding. Other times
when I've tried burning a cd, I get the message that says
the wizard cannot complete writing.
It has been suggested that I may need to reinstall the
OS. Has anyone else ever had a similar problem? If so,
how was it resolved? Any ideas/suggestions would be much
appreciated.

- Windows XP Hardware >> CD drive does not recognize files withinHello everyone,
I'm currently using Windows XP Pro which I updated to SP2 a while ago.
Even before this update I was facing some major problems to read CDs
from my combo drive DVD/CDRW. Actually I still have the same problems:
A) So if I insert a CD the icon in XP changes but when I double click
it's empty. The interesting part is that I can write CDs with this
drive and Winamp can even recognize the drive and RIPs Audio Cds with
no problem.
B)One day I decided to uninstall the drive and restart the system..No
luck and it didn't work.
C) Already getting desperate I just disabled the CD drive and
restared... Amazingly this worked... but only until the nex reboot...
:(
So I would like to ask you if anyone is having the same problesm and
if there's anyone that could help me. I'm really getting desperate...
I was thinking of changing the CD drive but somehow I think thta the
problem is from the XP side. And also I don't want to throw money away
just because XP is having a crisis..
Thank you very much

Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Slow running when resuming from standby
I've had this exact same problem since early this year...in fact, it just happened as I began writing this reply! I'm running XP Pro SP1a. I just completed a clearn reinstall of XP and still have the problem. I'm on a Gateway P4 (2.54 GHz, 500 Mb memory, 70 Gb on HD to spare. Since this problem appears to occur across manufacturers it looks like either Intel or MS have a major problem...I'm still lookling for a solution and will post if found
Good Luck...

- Windows XP Setup >> Formatting a new drivePreamble:
My computer uses Windows XP Home and has several drives appearing in My
Computer. The main hard drive includes two partitions, which were created
by Compaq (the computer manufacturer). The C: drive is the main drive
containing the operating system as well as all programs and data files. The
D: drive is apparently a backup of the operating system, drivers and other
stuff which is to be used by Compaq to fix problems.
I also have two external drives: an Iomega hard drive L:, and a small USB
plug-in jump drive (K:).
Here's what properties shows about the drive file systems:
C: NTFS
D: FAT32
K: NTFS
L: NTFS
Now the question:
I just bought a couple of spare jump drives. They apparently come
pre-formatted as FAT32.
Is there any reason to reformat them as NTFS? If so, how would I do so?

- Windows XP Network >> Computer freezes when copying large >~5 megs across networkIv'e got a 1.1ghz Athlon on an Asus KT133? board with 512
ram, running XP with all the latest service packs.
My network works fine for everything from
email/browsing/games etc.
However as soon as I try to transfer any files that are
greater than a certain size (around 5 megs, just guessing)
across the network, the computer freezes.
My computer also freezes (completely unresponsive) when
files are transfered from another computer to it.
I tried different network drivers, different network card,
different pci slot, different cat5 cable, and it still
froze.
What else should I try? I'm lost for ideas.
Thanks

- Windows XP Hardware >> XP Pro SP1 Athlon 1800+ too high processor loadHi,
I recently installed Win XP SP1 on an Athlon XP 1800+ with 512 DDR-RAM.
Before I had Win 98 and Win 2K running and everything was just fine. I
even tested othe OSes... no prob. But now everytime I start a program
the processor usage goes up to 100%. Watching movies, etc. is a diashow.
I did benchmarking with W2K and XP and it showed under XP that HD, RAM
is perfect but some CPU benchmarks seem to be even slower than some
500 MHz machines. Anyone any idea what this could be? I'm really goin
nuts here with this XP installation.
Thx in advance....

- Windows XP Support >> Installation of WinXP on laptops only possible with USB/PS2 mouse ?If I want to install WinXP on a laptop it seems to me that a USB/PS2 mouse is absolutely
required for this process.
Because Touchpad drivers can only be installed AFTER a previous full installation of WinXP
the touchpad can NOT be used for user interaction during WinXP installation.
Is this view correct?
Or is there something like a default, generic touchpad driver built-in in WinXP?
